Gardena, CA – Serra holding the lead 24-20 with 4:58 left on the clock after Long Beach Poly scored on a Matt Corral quarterback sneak to mount a comeback in the regular season finally.

That was all put on hold when Serra defense led by Merlin Robertson stopped  Poly on 4th & 5 from the 11 yard line. Then Serra run out the clock after few first downs for the victory.

Serra defense made plays in the end to secure the win getting that final stop after allowing 13 unanswered  points in the 4th quarter.

This matchup lived up to its top billing as it was circled on most players calendars a great win to have to springboard into the playoffs.

Blaze Mckibbin Serra quarterback was pressured all night by Poly front seven. He still managed to throw two big touchdowns in the game ending with a back shoulder comeback to Kobe Smith. The first one went to linebacker who was playing in slot on offense Merlin Robertson.

“It could be my last game out on this field, so I had to leave it all out on this field,” said Merlin Robertson,  “We needed this win tonight.”

As for Poly they started the game with true freshman Jake Garcia at quarterback who on the first play from scrimmage dropped a 59 yard touchdown and quick 7-0 lead over Serra.

Most may have wonder where was highly decorated Matt Corral who was benched to start the game due to discipline reason undisclosed. But once he did enter the game the tempo picked up noticeably.

Serra linebacker Justin Patterson scored the team last touchdown with he intercepted a screen pass and walked in endzone.

The 4th quarter had the players and the fans on their feet with Serra’s defense being the Goat. Poly was stopped on well designed play action screen that was sniffed out by safety Bryan Addison.

Now Serra should be assured an at-large bid from the Mission League to the southern section playoffs, while Poly was already the Moore League champs so they will host a first road game.

Seattle, WA- Battling until the last minute, CenturyLink Field was on pins and needles waiting to see who of the Seattle Seahawks or the Houston Texans would take the victory.

To bring hope back to Seattle, Russell Wilson threw a 48 yard pass to Paul Richardson Jr. continuing to make the ball game a nail biter. Next Wilson launched the football to Tyler Lockett, giving the Seahawks a 19 yard gain. Then he found  Jimmy Graham for a touchdown with only :21 seconds left, ending the game at 38-41.

Seahawks  quarterback Wilson and Texans  quarterback Deshaun Watson lit up the stadium with their resilient effort of leading their teams.

“Deshaun Watson is special. Go ahead and give him rookie of the year.” said Wilson, “He’s a great player.”

With so much buzz around the highly anticipated Sunday football game, the Seattle Seahawks versus the Houston Texans, America waited to see how the Texans would protest against owner Bob McNair.

“I told them if I had to do it over again I wouldn’t use that expression,” said McNair to the Houston Chronicle.

To no surprise the Houston Texans players took a knee during our National Anthem. Some standing with their hands over their hearts, the team did not protest as a whole.

Starting strong, Houston Texans rookie Watson completed a 59-yard touchdown pass to within minutes of the first quarter.

But just like that the Seahawks left cornerback Justin Coleman intercepted Watson’s pass taking the ball for a 78 yard run to score the Seahawks first touchdown, making it a tied 7-7 with ten minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Wilson’s 20-yard pass complete to Richardson giving the Seahawks a touchdown to tie the Texans at 14-14.

Wilson pleases the crowd completing a 53-yard pass to Tanner McEvoy to leave the Seahawks at the 7-yard line.  Seconds later making a second touchdown pass to Richardson 21-21 at half.

Watson’s pass intercepted by Richard Sherman returning 19-yards. Struggling to score, Blair Walsh succeeds with a 21-yard kick giving Seahawks their first lead at 24-27 going into the final quarter.

A Seattle Seahawks penalty of Chop Block pushes the Hawks back 15 yards. Immediately followed by a pass interference against the Texans, which allowed Russell Wilson to lead Jimmy Graham into the end zone 31-34.

Watson threw a touchdown to Hopkins for a 72 yard to put the Texans back in the lead at 38-34 with under five minutes in the game.

“I don’t know if you guys can imagine but we practice it, we practice believing so we can get to the point where when we have these opportunities we won’t let up,” said coach Pete Carroll.

The Seahawks and Texans combined a 988 total yards today, setting a record for this season.

Tempe, AZ- The heat of the desert was just what the USC Trojans needed to bounce back and cool off the red hot Arizona Sun Devils 48-17 Saturday night.

Just what the doctor order for USC to get back on track Student Body right, with Ronald Jones the II and that running game ran for 216 yards with two touchdowns against the Sun Devils.

To open up the second quarter Jones took one 67 yards for his first touchdown to make it 21-3 before the Sun Devils could look up.

Sam Darnold of old was back in pocket letting his playmakers make magic for him and not pressing the issue. He capped off 9 play 75 yard drive with 32 yard touchdown to Deontay Burnett.

“It definitely feels good,” said Darnold after his performance.

The Arizona State defense just could not mask their coverage enough to slow Darnold down.

The freshman Tyler Vaughs for USC chose the right game to break out and show case his receiving skills. Vaughs finished the day with 6 catches for 126 yards with two touchdowns.

Oregon leaps over UTAH to the victory column

Eugene, OR- With one of most impressive games of the season, regardless of Herbert’s absence, the Ducks showed out with a 41-20 victory over the Utes.

The Oregon Ducks (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12), the underdog of the afternoon, took the field desperate to squash their consecutive 3-game losing streak and keep their hopes for bowl game eligibility alive.

Favored by a field goal, the Utah Utes arrived at Autzen with an overall record of 4-3 and 1-3 in the Pac-12 was determined to silence the 56,154 fans in attendance. Despite the numerous Oregon injuries that have plagued the team’s season, Whittingham’s Utah Utes and ex-Oregon wide receiver Darren Carrington were no match for the Mighty Ducks.

One of the most notable moments of the game occurred in the third quarter when quarterback Braxton Burmeister connected to wide receiver Charles Nelson who bear crawled out of a tackle and completed a once-in-a-lifetime pass to tight end Jacob Breeland in the end zone for a touchdown. Nelson, eager for a touchdown throw all season, stated the play was practiced only once all week.

Taggart, Oregon’s head coach, called the play but a false start penalty brought the line back and when Taggart called the play a second time, Nelson joked that “I might have been smiling to the guy who was guarding me”.  The touchdown made it a 14-point game and Utah failed to score until the fourth.

Late in the second quarter, Cornerback Ugochukwu Amadi put Carrington and the Utah sideline to sleep when he recovered his ex-teammate’s fumble for a 47-yard carry to the end zone. The Ducks never let up their lead and Amadi’s touchdown put Oregon up, 17-3.

Breaking La Michael James’ record last weekend vs. UCLA, running back Royce Freeman became the second all-time for rushing yards in the Pac-12 Conference with 5,103 yards.

EUGENE, OR – October 28: #21 Oregon RB Royce Freeman carries the ball during a game between the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes in Eugene, OR. Oregon. Final Score Oregon 41 Utah 20. (Photo by Ben Ludeman / fi360 news).

After tonight’s win, Freeman joins James as one of the only Ducks with three 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Freeman attributes his success as running back to his strong and powerful offensive line.

“In order to run the ball successfully, that is all praise to the offensive line and I am very grateful to have them up front”, says Freeman.

When asked how it felt to be playing in the presence of 2014 Heisman winner and Oregon football legend, Marcus Mariota, Freeman expressed that “seeing alumni, like Marcus, who have been so successful at the University around motivates you, there are no better guys to see”.

Although Taggart continues to withhold details regarding Herbert’s medical status, a confident Burmeister controlled the ball on offense more so than previous weeks.

Burmeister finished with a lack luster 47 passing yards compared to Utah’s quarterback Tyler Huntley’s 293 passing yards. According to Taggart, he was proud of the improvements his freshman quarterback made this week.

“I thought Braxton did a good job, it was great for him to be at home and get his first victory as a starting quarterback”, says Taggart. When asked if Herbert has been medically cleared yet, Taggart responds with a laugh, “he’s throwing the football… and drinking his milk”.

Utah failed to make it happen this afternoon on offense, only scoring two touchdowns. Utah’s Kicker Matt Gay, the nation’s field goal leader, picked up the slack but missed one field goal late in the third quarter. The Duck’s dominated the rushing game with 347 yards to Utah’s 91.

The Ducks sent the Utes’ home discouraged and with their fourth loss on the season, making them the worst team in the Pac-12 South.

With their new found confidence, Oregon travels to Seattle next week on Saturday November 4th to face the No. 12 Washington Huskies, who remain undefeated at home.

Seattle, WA – All day long when the Washington Huskies wanted to move the sticks, running back Myles Gaskin was ready Saturday at Huskies Stadium.

Gaskin torched the UCLA Bruins defense for 169 yards on 27 carries to lift the Huskies to 44-23 victory.

Finishing with their heads held high, UCLA Bruin Osa Odighizuwa returns a 51-yard fumble for a touchdown for the last points of the game.

The Seattle fog lifted as the UCLA Bruins California sun covered Husky Stadium for the 12:41 PM PT kickoff.

Running with momentum from last week’s victory over the Oregon Ducks in Pasadena, the Bruins run into superior competition against the No.12 ranked Washington Huskies.

UCLA quarterback, Josh Rosen, battled the Husky defense, battling two separate sacks within the first quarter. Thanks to the roughing the passer penalty, life was given to a fresh set of downs to give the Bruins for the first field goal of the game.

Washington quarterback Jake Browning rushed for the first touchdown of the game to give the Huskies their first lead 7-3 and finish the game 98 yards in the air.

UCLA responds with a Jordan Wilson 7 yard touchdown reception via Josh Rosen.

Senior  running back Lavon Coleman had a career day rushing for three touchdowns, which sealed the game for the run heavy Huskies.

The Bruins’ fate was all but written in the stars due to their bottom of the league rushing defense.

Having Rosen pulled from the game, freshman Devon Modster did the best he could leading the Bruins, having his first ever career touchdown pass at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

“You know, it’s really his first time playing. He (Modster) led us down there to a touchdown. I think the thing we were mostly watching was his demeanor out there and how he handled things. I didn’t sense any panic in him or any fear,” said coach Jim Mora.

Following the defeat, UCLA coach Jim Mora stated, “I don’t know what it looked like from the stands or on TV and I don’t really care because I know these guys and I know what they’re made of. You know, we’ll just regroup, we’ll see who’s available to play, and we’ll put first our best effort again. It was a disappointing and tough loss for all of us. You know, we worked hard to get this win and we weren’t able to get it done.”

UCLA will travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes next Saturday.

Taggart’s Tactics: Oregon vs. Utah

Eugene, OR – With an overall record of 4-4 and a reputation of being the second worst team in the Pac-12, the Oregon Ducks are struggling to stay out of their own way, according to head coach Willie Taggart. Coming off of a hard loss to UCLA Oregon gears up to play Utah (4-3, 1-3) this weekend. Taggart stresses they must play the best they can, regardless of the multiple injuries they have suffered this season.

At this time, there is no say if Justin Herbert will be suiting up. Herbert has been out with a collarbone injury as of Sep. 30th when the Ducks’ won 45-24 against the California Bears. Since Herbert’s absence, Oregon has accumulated a three game losing streak.
When Taggart was asked if Herbert plans to return to the field, “Justin’s throwing passes, he’s doing whatever Justin like to do right now… don’t tease me”, Taggart teases with a smirk.

EUGENE, OR – October 7: The Oregon mascot AKA Puddles during a game. (Photo by Ben Ludeman / fi360 News).

When asked how Oregon plans to take control, Taggart stresses forcing turnovers, playing solid defense and making progressive improvements daily. On offense, taking care of the football is the main objective. Taggart expresses worry over proper preparation with formulating 15 play drives when he sees his team not running the correct routes. “We got to find ways to get those explosive plays that we were getting earlier in the year and that will help our football team out tremendously”, said Taggart.

Struggling to find their offensive identity and power plays, Taggart has high hopes for his Ducks this weekend. Tune in as Oregon hosts the Utah Utes (4-3, 1-3) this Saturday at 2:45 p.m., televised on Pac-12 Networks.

Corvallis, OR – Returning from a bye week Oregon State looked to slow the No. 20 Stanford Cardinal at home, the fourth top 25 ranked opponent for the Beavers this season.

The Stanford Cardinal shattered any hopes the Beavers had of an upset as quarterback Keller Chryst threw his only touchdown of the night to wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside take the lead for the Cardinal and the victory 15-14.

Oregon State was primed to secure their upset victory as they led Stanford 14-9 with 2:38 left in the fourth quarter. Similarly to the end of the first half the Beavers attempted to run the clock down when Ryan Nall fumbled and the Cardinal recovered on the Oregon State 43 yard line.

Even after the costly mistake the Oregon State defense was in a position to become the heroes of the night in front of a crowd that was ready to storm the field after they forced another Cardinal fourth down. Prior to the snap coach Hall frantically tried to call timeout to make an adjustment in his secondary however the referee did not notice and Stanford was able to convert on fourth down.

Notably absent from the Thursday night Pac-12 Conference matchup was Stanford Heisman hopeful and national rushing leader Bryce Love, who was inactive with an ankle injury.

After a scoreless and slow first quarter, Oregon State looked to get their playmaker Ryan Nall involved any way possible. Running Nall out of wildcat, designed zone reads and taking direct snaps, Nall led the Beavers to their first scoring drive of the night with 47 rushing yards that series alone. A 3-yard touchdown rush by quarterback Darell Garretson quickly capped off the drive giving the Beavers their first lead of the game at 7-3.

Following two impressive defensive stands the Beavers were 1st and 10 on their own 18-yard line with 51 seconds left in the half. Set to receive the ball at the start of the second half, Oregon State was attempting to conservatively run the clock out and maintain a lead of 4 points when Garretson lost a costly fumble on a miscommunication between himself and Ryan Nall. The fumble set up another Cardinal field goal cutting the Beaver’s lead to 1 at 7-6 to end of the first half.

On the opening drive of the second half Oregon State’s offense found the end zone again, this time with an 18-yard touchdown run by Thomas Tyner extending their lead to 8 at 14-6. The Cardinal would later counter with their third field goal of the night bringing the score to 14-9.

CORVALLIS, OR – October 26: Oregon State Interim Head Coach Cory Hall during a game between the Oregon State Beavers and Stanford Cardinal in Corvallis, OR. Stanford beat Oregon State 15-14. (Photo by Ben Ludeman / fi360 News).

After the game Oregon State interim head coach Cory Hall stated, “Beaver football is changing”.

When asked where the change has come from Hall replied, “I’ve always believed a team is going to take on the identity of their head coach, and I’m no one to be pushed around”.

This newfound mentality has been obvious since Hall’s takeover on October 9th, when former head coach Gary Anderson and Oregon State mutually parted ways.

CORVALLIS, OR – October 26: #19 Stanford WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside turns upfield during a game between the Oregon State Beavers and Stanford Cardinal in Corvallis, OR. Stanford beat Oregon State 15-14. (Photo by Ben Ludeman / fi360 News).

In only his second game as interim head coach Hall’s Beavers held the high-powered Stanford offence that scored 58, 34, 23 and 49 points respectively in their last four games to only 15 total points. An admirable feat regardless of Bryce Love’s absence from the team who allowed Portland State to amount 32 points earlier this season under Anderson.

Oregon State may not have won the upset they had dreamt of tonight, but in an already lost season the “change” that coach Hall has been able to instill in his short time in charge is far more important.
