As the Oregon Ducks take on their rival’s the Oregon State Beavers this weekend, the Ducks are ready to face off and redeem themselves from last year’s loss of 24-34. As their eight-game winning streak versus OSU was snapped in 2016, the Ducks need to show up locked and loaded. With QB Justin Herbert back in the swing of things and coming off of last week’s explosive win against Arizona, the Ducks have faith in their squad again.

In practice on Wednesday, the Ducks are looking strong both, offensively and defensively. Offensively, Herbert, known as the Duck’s secret weapon after last weekend, will bring his talent to the line as he improves the Duck’s passing game. With all-star receivers such as TE Jacob Breeland and WR Charles Nelson, Herbert has a solid group of teammates he can count on to complete plays. There is no doubt that Oregon’s RB Royce Freeman has been a signature player throughout the season. Two rushing touchdowns away from passing OSU’s Ken Simonton for most all-time in the Pac-12, Freeman has had a powerful presence on this program and according to Taggart has set the example for running backs to come.

The Oregon defense has RB Ryan Nall as their biggest target. Taggart described him as a “big-time competitor, he’s a big running back that’s athletic and he’s dangerous”. To ensure Nall isn’t making big moves to the end zone, Taggart states the team needs to know where they need to be to stop the powerful running back in the red zone.

Jim Leavitt, Oregon’s defensive coordinator, continues to rave about CB Arrion Springs, performance last weekend against Arizona: “I keep saying the word ‘proud’, but it’s true. He’s been a real good veteran for us… he’s done really well this year so far”. Springs, one of Oregon’s seniors and most importantly, key player for the Duck defense, states that he won’t respond to the rivalry beef through media but it will all sort itself out on the field.

USC shot the lights out as four starters finished with double-digits in scoring to help the No. 10 Trojans cruise to a 88-63 win over Lehigh on Wednesday night at the Galen Center.

Bennie Boatwright recorded his first double-double of the season and third of his career after finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. USC made 12 three-pointers to tie a season high.

“I thought our players had an intensity and focus tonight,” USC coach Andy Enfield said. “We came out in the second half and really shared the basketball well and we contested every shot.”

USC jumped out to a 10-point lead on Elijah Stewart’s three-pointer with 12:52 remaining in the first half. The Trojans continued their hot shooting from three-point range as Shaqquan Aaron nailed a three and moments later Jonah Matthews drilled another three to extend the lead, 31-15.

Boatwright converted a three-point play as the second half was winding down, giving the Trojans a 46-32 lead going into halftime.

Jonah Matthews finished with 18 points, including four three-pointers. USC shot 46.2 percent from beyond the arc while out rebounding Lehigh, 49-32. Chimezie Metu came up a rebound short of his second double-double this season, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds.

After coming off a career-high 35 points in the win against Vanderbilt, senior captain Jordan McLaughlin scored five points but dished out seven assist while adding three steals.

“He (McLaughlin) scores when he needs too,” Enfield said. “Our team needs him to be a leader and distributer. He’s very valuable to his teammates.”

USC improved to 4-0 and will turn its focus to the big matchup against No. 16 Texas A&M on Sunday at 7 p.m. The Trojans beat the Aggies last year at College Station.

Los Angeles, CA—University of California, Los Angeles Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero announced today that Head Football Coach Jim Mora has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.  Offensive Coordinator Jedd Fisch will serve as Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season.

“Making a coaching change is never easy, but it’s an especially difficult decision when you know that a coach has given his all to our University,” said Guerrero.  “Jim helped reestablish our football program, and was instrumental in so many ways in moving the program forward.  While his first four seasons at UCLA were very successful, the past two seasons have not met expectations. We thank Jim and his family for his service to our school and his unquestionable commitment to our student-athletes.”

The terms of Mora’s contract will be honored by UCLA Athletics, exclusively using department-generated funds.

In six seasons at UCLA, Mora compiled a 46-30 record, leading the Bruins to a pair of school record-tying 10-win seasons, winning the PAC-12 South in 2013 and taking the Bruins to four bowl games, including victories in the Sun Bowl (2013) and Alamo Bowl (2014). Under Mora, Bruin teams produced four of the top five best total offensive season outputs in school history. Twenty-five Bruins were selected in the NFL Draft during Mora’s tenure.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Guerrero will be assisted in the search by Senior Associate Athletic Director Josh Rebholz, Bruin alumnus and supporter Casey Wasserman and former Bruin football great Troy Aikman.

“I am grateful for the willingness of Josh, Casey and Troy to help us recruit the very best coach to Westwood, as their advice and counsel will be indispensable,” said Guerrero. “We have no set timeline to make a hire but will move as expediently and comprehensively as possible.  We will not comment on the search or candidates until we announce a hire, and I would remind our passionate supporters that speculation, rumors and innuendo are just that.”

Los Angeles, CA – The No. 11 USC Trojans got all they could handle from cross town rival the UCLA Bruins. The Trojans grinded out a 28-23 victory at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.

USC played a balance game offensively keeping Sam Darnold to 17/28 throws for 264 yards  was credit to the Bruins plus one interception.

The running game featured Ronald Jones Jr. who carried the ball 28 times for 122 yards, who was called upon when the score needed to be kept informed.

“Two teams that really respected each other,” said coach  Clay Helton, “To come out on top is really rewarding.”

The Bruins connection of Josh Rosen, Jordan Lasley was undeniable tonight. Lasley in his second game back torched the Trojans for three touchdowns with 204 yards.

Josh Rosen was lighting up the stat sheet but penalties was only thing to slow him down  so only threw for 421 yards.

“We have the utmost respect for Josh Rosen,” said linebacker Cameron Green, “HE come out tonight and show exactly what he is about.”

USC punts on first series, while UCLA drive stalled after illegal man downfield that nullified a 50 yard reception by Lasley.

In a bizarre shank punt results in touchdown by Michael Pitman due to Ajene Harris faked a fair catch.

On senior night for the Trojans emotions running high didn’t seem to spill over to the playing field. Maybe little let down knowing that they will play for PAC-12 Championship on December 1 at Levi’s Stadium.

Lasley scores his second touchdown catch of the game on USC blown coverage for 9 yards to respond to their last touchdown to trail 21-14 in 3rd quarter.

USC Malik Dorton comes up with the play of half causing Josh Rosen to fumble and stop them from getting points on 37 yard line with :37 seconds left.

The score was 14-7 at the half with UCLA having the ball to start the third quarter.

The ugly penalties was the Bruins Achilles heel throughout the game, with 12 penalties for 100 yards. But even more then the yards they were drive killers that helped out Trojans defense.

Now the Trojans will rest up and await who will win the right to face off against USC in the PAC-12 Championships game on December 1st.

As for the Bruins they have one last opportunity Friday November 24, to get that six victory to be Bowl eligible this season and finish with .500 record.

Eugene, OR – Oregon’s rushing attack was all Royce Freeman who torched Arizona for four touchdowns on the way to a 48-28 victory at home.

Quarterback Justin Herbert went back to pass and saw a big hole that caused him to bring ball down then 40 yards later in the endzone for the Ducks first touchdown tie game early.

Herbert knocked off the rust quickly passing for 235 yards in the game with rushing and throwing  touchdown.

“It was huge having Herbert back,” said coach Willie Taggart, “We got back to having explosive plays that this offensive thrives on.”

Freeman was a direct beneficiary of having his starting quarterback back in the lineup. He rushed for 135 yards 4 touchdowns on 19 carries.

Oregon’s defensive really came to play and game plan was to get the ball out of Khalil Tate hands. Not your typical stat line only rushing for 32 yards and passing for 159 yards 1 touchdown with 2 interceptions.

“Having a bye week really helped,” said coach Taggart “We did a good job making him (Tate) give the ball to running back.”

When the Ducks had the ball they gave the Arizona all they could handle with the two headed monster in the backfield. Freeman running mate Tony Brooks-James also rushed for 124 yards  on 19 carries as well.

Now the Ducks are bowl eligible with 6 wins and one more big game to play next week versus Oregon State for the Civil War.

Corvallis, OR – In their final home game of the season, Oregon State extended their losing streak to 9 games as they fell to Arizona State 40-24.

In a tale of two halves Oregon State struggled in the first, at one point trailing Arizona State in total yards 322-26.

Much like last week performance, interim head coach Corey Hall was able to make adjustments at the half resulting in a competitive second half box score of Arizona State 17, Oregon State 10.

CORVALLIS, OR – October 26: Oregon State Interim Head Coach Cory Hall during a game in Corvallis, OR. (Photo by Ben Ludeman).

Reflecting on the team’s’ difference between the two halves coach Hall simply said, “[We] need to be able to put together two halves”.

The Beavers however, looked like a completely new team in the fourth quarter as quarterback Darell Garretson and running back Trevorris Johnson both found the end zone amounting 14 points. The Beavers comeback and momentum was quickly crushed after Garretson fumbled the snap on Arizona State’s 10 yard line with only 2:29 left to play. Arizona State would go on to win 40-24.

Arizona State controlled the game early as their quarterback Manny Wilkins found Kyle Williams and Curtis Hodges for touchdowns on their first two possessions of the game.

The Sun Devils led 14-0 with less than 6 minutes of play. Following an Arizona State safety which extended the their lead to 16 points, the Sun Devils switched to a conservative run game.

The Beavers defense continued to struggle in the second quarter against the rush allowing Arizona State running back Demario Richard to rush for two touchdowns of his own.

With 1:53 left in the first half Oregon State finally showed signs of life with some trickery on an electrifying 36 yard reverse by wide receiver Trevon Bradford. Bradford’s rush would set the Beavers up with a 1st and goal look that was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown rush from running back Ryan Nall, giving the Beavers their first score of the day.

The two teams would trade field goals in the third quarter putting the Beavers down 33-10 as they entered the 4th quarter.

Oregon State will travel to Eugene next week to face in-State rival Oregon, in their final game this season.

A rivalry game in-which Oregon State running back Ryan Nall has historically had his best performances.

“We don’t care about our record anymore, all we care about is winning the State,” said Nall an Oregon Native

Harbor City, CA – Narbonne was in the red zone looking to slam the door on San Pedro when they called Jermar Jefferson number again. Jefferson didn’t disappoint by going in on for his fourth of game making the score 34-14 in 3rd quarter 8:05 on clock.

Narbonne played a complete game defeating San Pedro 48-14 after a first round bye in the Open Division for the Los Angeles City Section playoffs.

Jefferson wasted no time letting San Pedro know that he was going to be running down hill all game long. He scored his first of four touchdowns on 8 yard run to take first lead 7-0 with 9:12 in 1st quarter.

“It just felt great to me, the O-Line opening up holes for me,” said Jefferson, “We looking to go to State and win.”

San Pedro Sean Davenport starting to hurdle a Narbonne defender in the High School Football San Pedro Pirates vs Narbonne Gauchos on November 17, 2017 at Narbonne High School. (Photo by Jevone Moore/Full Image 360)

San Pedro game plan was no secret feed the ball to Sean Davenport who played the most complete game you could on the losing end.  Pedro gave the ball to Davenport 34 times where he rushed for 118 yards and caught a hand full of passes.

Narbonne lead by senior quarterback Jalen Chatman who threw for 289 yards  and two touchdowns to complement the running game.

If the Gauchos want to back up Jefferson words and go to State Chatman will have to eliminate the turnovers and make the smart play.

The two interceptions by Chatman led only to 7 points for San Pedro in the game but in the next rounds they could be more costly.

These two marine league foes always seem to slug it out twice a season. The results was the same but San Pedro led by coach Corey Miller had his guys ready to play.

Narbonne offensive line led by left tackle Jonah Tauanu’u who kept going to make blocks on the second level. When you have that type of weapon it really helps the scoreboard move.

Now No. 1 seed Narbonne will host No. 4 seed Fairfax next and on the other side of the bracket No. 2 Crenshaw will host No. 3 Carson.

Los Angeles, CA – No. 10 USC overcame a slow start and poor shooting to grind out a 75-65 win over North Dakota State on Monday night at the Galen Center.

Junior Bennie Boatwright scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting to help the Trojans improve to 2-0.

“They played very well and we missed a lot of easy shots,” USC coach Andy Enfield said, “I was proud of my players for coming back.”

USC struggled on offense, missing dunks, layups and shooting 54.8 percent from the free-throw line but used a zone press to force 19 turnovers on defense.

“It was just one of those nights,” Jordan McLaughlin said, “We just need to get back in the gym and keep shooting free throws.”

North Dakota State jumped out to a 10-point lead after three-straight three point baskets with 4:51 remaining in the first half. The Trojans went on a 12-2 run and Boatwright scored eight points to help the Trojans tie the game, 33-33, heading into halftime.

Enfield said they decided to go zone for the last 10 minutes of the game because they were having trouble guarding the Bisons man-to-man.

“They were quicker than us because we had bigger guys,” Enfield said. “They really spread the floor with their shooters. Our zone press was effective at times and we forced them into some bad passes.”

USC trailed by five when Jonah Matthews drained back-to-back shots, including a three, to tie it at 56 with 8:26 left in the game. USC went on a 10-0 run before Cameron Hunter hit a three-pointer to cut the Trojans lead, 70-65.

The Trojans defense held on while USC made free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

“I credit the coaching staff and my teammates for helping me getting in the gym and working on my game,” Boatwright said.”My all-around game, not just being a three-point shooter.”
