Seattle, WA – Seahawks Russell Wilson gets the ball into the hands of his play makers all game and they performed at high level. Today’s 39-30 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers came only by true grit and determination. When it was time for somebody to step up they did just that, from interceptions, to breaking tackles and matching the Steelers intensity.

This win came at huge price losing pro bowl tight end Jimmy Graham who tore patellar tendon in the fourth quarter after diving for a potential touchdown catch. Wilson was highly efficient completing 21/30 passes for 345 yards and five touchdowns.  One of his main targets was Doug Baldwin who hit 6 times for 145 yards with most impressive was 80 yard break and go for go ahead touchdown.

The Steelers rode on the back of Ben Roethlisberger till he broke in 4th quarter. Before he left the game hurt he had thrown for 456 yards on 55 attempts connecting on only on 36 of those. The Seahawks were able to sack Roethlisberger two times in the game which is not that easy. Richard Sherman followed Pittsburgh big play receiver Antonio Brown for almost the whole game. Brown was only able to catch 6 passes for 51 yards average 8.5 yards per catch. The Legion of Boom gave up 201 yards to WR Marcus Wheaton but that was game plan let somebody other than Brown beat us.

This game had a playoff feel to it from the crowd to type plays the players were make on both teams. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was all smile when Baldwin scored and he knew that the playoffs would still be in sight. The Seahawks trailed by only a field goal at the half to make for great ending that both teams would have been upset if they came away empty handed.

In the post game press conference coach Mike Tomlin said, “The fake punt was my call & I take full responsibility for that.” This game was the Steelers game to win going down the stretch but defense of the Seahawks had other plans. The 12th man for the Seattle made their presence know and showed the true appreciation for a victory. They loved how every Seahawks ran hard after the catch to make up missing Marshawn Lynch who had surgery on a abdominal.

Now the Seahawks move to a record of 6-5 and are only three games behind Arizona. They will travel to face Minnesota and Adrian Petterson.  While Pittsburgh will need to shake off this game and prepare for Indianapolis to chase the wildcard spot. Keep up with your favorite team by never giving up.

Tacoma, Wa- The Skyline Spartans will be riding a great swell of emotion into the Championship game after upsetting Lake Stevens in a hard fought 37-34 victory. The big story line was suppose to be about Lake Stevens quarterback the Georgia commit Jacob Eason but tonight it was all about Blake Gregory for Skyline.

Anytime Skyline need a big play Gregory delivered, he threw, he ran & flat out willed his team to victory. Gregory had 503 yards of total offense, 436 yards passing, 3 touchdowns & rushed for 70 yards with rushing touchdown. The Spartans pro style offense was run almost to perfection by their signal caller.

The Skyline Spartans can in with a chip on their should ready to shock the world. Before they took the field you could hear one captain say, “The don’t respect us, but after tonight the will!”. Those words rang so clear after the win the ended with the last deep pass towards end zone the was intercepted by Danny Sinatro with no time on clock. You could see the great disappointment on the Vikings faces.

This game had some many momentum swings and just impressive plays by both teams wanting to represent District 1 in the championship game. Eason had solid game throwing for 390 yards with a pair touchdowns. You could see that he has strong arm but the coaches game plan was not to throw deep too often. So not till late in fourth quarter did you see full strength of his arm but by then the Spartans defense was so jacked up on emotion that they declared a no fly zone. Spartan Colin Huber was matched up against Vikings best and came through big with tight coverage when it was need the most.

Skyline last touchdown drive that was all on Gregory’s shoulders, went 7 plays for 94 yards. Their first play from their own 6 yard line was 33 yard completion to Kai Kang. Most teams would played it safe with a run but, not the Spartans. They capped drive off with 27 yard strike to Bradley Kim for go ahead touchdown 37-34.

Now the Skyline Spartans will face the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups from District 5 next Saturday back at Tacoma Dome for the right to be call 4A Champions.

Los Angeles, Ca – The Bruins couldn’t find a way to get back from there 3rd quarter let down.  The fourth quarter was much of the same. The Trojans played like their Clay Helton head coaches identity Ball control offense behind the running game. UCLA was defeated 40-21 to USC in final regular season game. Both finishing with a record 8-4.

This was 85th matchup for these cross-town rivals played today’s contest at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The battle of Los Angeles is for the right to represents the Pac-12 south next week in Championships game at Levi Stadium.

Running back Paul Perkins put the Bruins on the score board first on 4th & 1 scoring on 19 yard dip and go for 7-3 lead with 3:26 left 1st quarter. The Bruins were controlling the game in first half until they gave up big yards on 1st sack of Rosen in the game, that gave wide open field for Adoree’ Jackson 42 yard punt return for a touchdown and the halftime lead 20-14. The kick was a line drive that didn’t allow time for the coverage team to get down the field and the elusive Trojans made them pay for it.

The Trojans had the momentum going into the half but that all changed when Bruins scored on 1 yard Perkins touchdown to seize back the lead in 3rd Quarter 21-20 with 8:38. Then Defensive Coordinator Tom Bradley began to get his zone defensive  scheme rolling and began to dial up some pressure of their own.

USC Rasheem Green at UCLA 32 yard line scooped up Rosen fumble for quick led but was unsuccessful in making 2 point conversion to gain full 7 point lead so Bruins mistake left down 21-26. Then on back to back possession Rosen then throws off his back foot for interception by Iman Marshall with 5:16 left in 3rd Quarter.

The Trojans will not have the opportunity for a rematch against the Stanford Cardinals who defeated them 41-31 in their Pac-12 opener. So these teams who opened up against each other in league play will now face off Pac-12 birthday 100th years Championship game. So Next Saturday December 5th will be a great matchup for revenge or dominance.

Los Angeles, Ca – There was only one game standing between the Coach Manuel Douglas and his Narbonne Gauchos  to reach another opportunity at a Championship ring. That team was the Dorsey Dons the marine league #3 behind 1st year head coach Irvin Davis. Both teams playing pretty lose with nothing to lose mentality. Narbonne came away with impressive 42-0 victory over the Dorsey.

The Gauchos had a balanced scoring each quarter finding the end zone with four different options. It was a great game plan playing against a team that had nothing to lose but was thinking they could steal one. The safe play netted them just what they need an injury free game to be at full strength for the Championship.

The night was little more special for Narbonne QB Roman Ale  who tied Troy Williams’ school record for career touchdowns with 40 on a 74-yard strike to Cedric Byrd. Ale was able to complete 8/10 for 203 yards on the night.

Running back Sean Riley normally is needed to be Mr. Spectacular but tonight just need to be the clean up man scoring on runs for 1, 3 yards for his two touchdowns. Back up running back  Kameron Denmark had a 8 yard touchdown run, while the offense just marched most of the game down the field.

Dorsey’s offensive never really got going on the ground by Devin Mangrum or Charles Mincy, Jr., the line just was a step slower getting to their blocks. Narbonne secondary played tight coverage most of the night and never let QB Jerman Gotoy get any deep passes into his receivers.

Now the Division I Championship game is set Narbonne (11-2) will play No. 6 seed Crenshaw next Saturday at 7 p.m. in the City final at Cerritos College. It is Narbonne’s fifth-straight trip to the City finals.

Santa Monica, Ca – How do you follow up Four Straight American Pacific Conference Titles? That was the question starting this 2015 Santa Monica College Corsairs football season. This team delivered with an “Unbelievable” 11-0 and 5th consecutive title.   The coaching staff was the one constant during this period of success behind the leadership of Head Coach Gifford Lindheim (Coach of year 2015) in his 7th full season (1st Year Interim).

This journey began back in the summer with a large group of hopeful football players eager to play for the great SMC Family football team. Not all who started on this journey were strong or fortunate enough to endure the pruning of college football season. Coach Lindheim started off the season the same way as his other teams caring for his players on and off field and in the classroom. Every player knows that coach will be there by phone or by facebook on their personal page. Each year The Corsairs grow as a FAMILY and it helps on the field in battle.

On the football field the up tempo offense was coordinated by Tim Kaub who been calling his spread no huddle offense for years. This season welcomed an old player from his High School era with the Utah Utes bound Troy Williams (Pacific Offense MVP 2015) who ran this offense with him to a title before. So the learning curve for Williams was little to none just going back into his memory bank. He saved his best performance for last JUCO game in the American Pacific Conference Bowl game with 7 Touchdowns (6 First Half) hitting 9 different targets. The defense made the field shorter by creating 7 turnovers (6 interceptions, 1 fumble) and a shutout of the Mountain League #2 Victor Valley.

We all know defense wins championships, led by Coordinator Steven Garcia who been running the ship for each of title runs. You will always hear his voice before you see him wearing our signature orange shirt to allow for defense to spot his calls easier. This defensive held its opponents to only 207 points for the season which was 18 points a game. They also put on an interception clinic in the championship bowl.

Every game wasn’t a breeze they had their fair share of scares and comeback wins during this magical run. Earlier in the year one of most gratifying victories was verse nemesis Southwestern 48-21. Then in a league game shootout with LA Valley 28-20, who won their bowl game verse Mountain #1. That showed how dominate the Pacific was this year making it even more sweeter of a season. The defense had 8 players make 1st/2nd team All Pacific league, with MVP being their very own Max Lyons.

The players can tell you stories for days on how special this season was and will continue to be. Coach Lindheim summed up this season in one word, “Unbelievable”; he would even let his team reflect on the season as they were winning week to week till Monday after their last victory to complete the 11-0 undefeated season and taking the torch from last SMC undefeated team 25 years ago.

Matadors Couldn’t Kill The Trojans

Los Angeles, CA – USC Trojans men’s basketball team hosted the CSUN Matadors at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Trojans are on a roll. Strutting through the streets of Los Angeles with 4 wins, all the while handing the Matadors there 7th  all time loss with a final score USC 96 CSUN 61.

When you sit back and look at the stats from tonight’s game it read like a fine Greek Tragedy, USC field goal percentage was at 48.7 while CSUN was at 33.4.  The Matadors not able to pull out one 3 point shot in the first half. USC’s biggest lead of the game was 36 points. Jordan McLaughlin had 20 points, 9 defensive rebounds and 6 assist, Julian Jacobs had 11 rebounds to pair with his 10 assist, and Katin Reinhart, Bennie Boatwright and Nikola Jovanovic with a combine point total of 39 you know the Trojans were the stars on the floor that’s not to say that the Matador’s Jason Richard (18 points), Olalekan Ajayi (12 points) and Tavrion Dawson (11 points) did their best to slow the Trojans down to no avail. I mean the Matadors looked like they just couldn’t catch a break or find the grove what so ever.

The Trojans are looking like they are on fire. I mean just steam rolling their competition. Today was no exception.  The Matadors at best looked at their best to be the Trojans practice squad, at worst Stonehenge.  The Trojans have been playing smart, physical, fast, and unselfish. They’ve achieved clear growth over last season.  With all those previously mentioned improvements and brazen wins have the Trojans been challenged enough on these season openers to prepare them for the next big team match ups on the East Coast next week? Oh where’s a good fortune teller when you need one.

San Diego, Ca – The stage was set for an emotional victory by the Chargers have little extra spirit on a special day. Ownership choose this Sunday to recognize one of their recent greats LaDainian Tomlinson aka “L.T.” with his jersey being retired and being place in Ring of Honor. All the extra energy did nothing for Chargers who were defeated by The Kansas City 33-3.

The visiting Chiefs had a game plan of their own which amassed 385 yards total offense. Alex Smith had his offense going on the ground and  through the air the injury depleted Chargers just couldn’t answer back. One of biggest Running Backs #92 Dontari Poe went over the top of pile for 1 yard Touchdown leap for game 1st score. That was story of the day, if Defensive Tackle score you better look out. The Chargers never led in the game managing only a field goal before the half.

This was a Family affair for the Tomlinson’s, with L.T. wife LaTorsha Tomlinson singing the National Anthem like a platinum recording artist. The halftime presentation was all L.T. with an emotional ceremony first having his name shown in Chargers Ring of Honor. He was overtaken with joy and even shed a few tears behind his sunglasses. He thanked God, Wife, Mom, teammates….fans and ownership, that is when fans booed. The San Diego fans let everyone know that they don’t want their team to move to Los Angeles and they are not happy with management right now. But after the boos the cheers came roaring back when the unveiled L.T. famous #21 next too other greats #55 Seau, #14 Fouts.

The current Chargers running back 1st rounded Melvin Gordon just could get things go today rushing for only 37 yards on 15 touches. The musical chairs offensive line could open up running lanes on Chiefs front seven.  It wasn’t too much better with Phillip Rivers being sacked 3 times and dropped balls all over the field. The drops were happening with all the receivers having their fair share of mental errors. The crowd even saw the 2-8 team start pointing fingers on the sideline. Rivers spoke on the exchange, “Brothers argue that what brothers due..”

Now the Chiefs are back to five hundred ball and trail the first place AFC West Denver Broncos by 3 games. The Chiefs will use today game as momentum to chase a wildcard spot if they can rack up some wins. This Chargers team will be in line for a great draft pick going into next year with the playoffs mathematical out of question. It will be up to Chargers coach Mike McCoy to keep this locker room together at seams so that things don’t get toxic. Next week the Chargers will travel east to face Jacksonville and look to get back in win column.

Los Angeles, CA – The USC Trojans men’s basketball team hosted the New Mexico Lobos at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Trojans got their 3rd win in a row at the Lobos expense, USC 90 New Mexico 82. The Trojans issuing the Lobos their first lost of the regular season. Trojan fans are hoping this winning spirit is enough to get their team through this grueling schedule the team is about to embark on.

Now I need to go on recorded and say the final score is no reflection of how down right entertaining this game was. I mean this was good!  The Trojans played a team that I felt was there mirror image. Had the Lobos not been running  cold at the rim in the 1st half, I know the final outcome would have been skin tight close. The game was extremely physical but not in a bad sportsmanship kind of way. Both teams came out exploding with energy, making fast plays and stayed looking for wholes in each others armor.

USC had 4 players in double digits (Jordan McLaughlin 19, Elijah Stewart 18, Bennie Boatwright 15, Julian Jacobs 14), which is why they were hitting a solid 56.3% field goals in the 1st half compared to New Mexico’s 38.2%. USC’s largest lead of the game was 21 points in the 2nd half which would have discouraged your average opponents but the Lobos are no parts of average. Bennie had the 3’s raining down so hard he could have been given the nick name of Mr. Tri tonight.

Elijah Brown named the first Mountain West Conference Player of the week of the 2015-16 season, so when he sunk three 3 point shots in three minutes everyone totally got a glimpse of how he earned that honor.  Tim Williams served up a respectable 25 points, and when USC’s lead looked like it was about to get ridiculous Tim and the rest of the Lobos turned it up!!! They went from 19 rebounds in the 1st half to 28 in the 2nd (USC 19 rebounds in the 1st and 20 in the 2nd), and in the last seven minutes of the game Tim Jacobs, Cullen Neil, Elijah Brown and Anthony Mathis made enough 3 point shots to get them with 5 points of the Trojans.

It’s fair to say that New Mexico made USC come and work for this win … and work the did. In the infamous words of Jay Z … “on to the next one”.

South Bay, CA – The playoffs are here for high school football, it the time of year that Champions are Made. The Lawndale Cardinals took a loss to #1 Seed Calabasas Coyotes 33-7 in a tough battle. This would have been a later round match-up but due to a few CIFSS infractions this Quarterfinals game was a sight to see now. They players on both teams got to chance to impress Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Mark Banker look for talent.

The Coyotes started slow with little success in first quarter of play, it wasn’t till 2nd quarter that first touched scoreboard. They took lead for short second after missing the extra point and excite the visiting crowd.  Lawndale responded behind QB Chris Murray drove team down field and capped it off with QB keeper for 7-6 lead. This was the only time the Cardinals held the lead during the game.

This Calabasas team had too many weapons for the short handed Cardinals who lost running back Zach Cooper in first half. So Murray had more weight to carry on already unstable legs from few hits slowing him down but still had enough to show he is the real deal. The trio of juniors had the field covered starting at QB Tristan Gebbia with targets of Darnay Holmes &  Keyshawn Johnson jr. on the outsides who both made a bunch big catches and racked up good chunks of yardages. The standout Senior Nebraska commit Marquel Dismuke returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, caught an 18-yard touchdown pass and reeled in a pair of interceptions to move Calabasas to its first semifinal in 17 years.

Down the bay in City Section the Narbonne Gauchos were marching on to their quest for Championship run of their own. The Gauchos handled marine league foe San Pedro 55-24 for second time this year. This team has the #1 seed and coach Manuel Douglas has them performing like such.

The officials even took two touchdowns away from Narbonne but they wasn’t enough to slow down running back Sean Riley. Reaching the end zone this season has been a place where Riley has visited a lot. Just last week on one of his touchdown celebrations mimic WWE drop off the ropes when viral after uploading it to social media. He finished the game with 335 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns, including a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The team has been playing great football all season and if they don’t reach the division 1 championship game it will be a big disappointment.

The South Bay will be represented well next week in City Section with Narbonne hosting Dorsey, then in other side Crenshaw at Arleta. In the Southern Section Palos Verdes with host Mira Costa, Redondo Union will travel to Calabasas. Surprisingly the Serra Cavaliers will not be moving on after 1 point defeat to Mater Dei.
