SAN FRANCISCO – Quarterback Jared Goff of CALIFORNIA, linebacker Antonio Longino of ARIZONA STATE and place kicker Casey Skowron of ARIZONA have been named offensive, defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.

Goff, a junior quarterback from Novato, Calif., threw for 453 yards, completing 26-of-37 passes in California’s 54-24 victory over Oregon State. Goff led Cal to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2011 by equaling his school-record six touchdown passes, which also ties for the most passes thrown by a quarterback in the nation this season. He became the second player in Pac-12 history to record over 3,000 passing yards in each of his first three seasons and the sixth player in Conference history to record three-3,000 yard campaigns.

Longino, a senior linebacker from Cleveland, Ohio., helped the Arizona State defense hold Washington scoreless in the second half and forced four turnovers as well as three turnovers on downs in ASU’s 27-17 win over Washington. His 9-yard sack on the Husky quarterback in the third quarter pushed Washington back, which resulted in a 45-yard missed field goal. Longino’s second sack of 8 yards midway through the fourth quarter halted the Washington momentum, resulting in an interception for the Sun Devils to kill the drive. Longino tallied a game-high four tackles-for-loss for a total of 20 yards, including two sacks for a loss of 17 yards and finished with seven solo tackles and one bass break-up.

Skowron, a senior placekicker from Phoenix, Ariz., totaled 13 points in his final home game, kicking a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-for-4 on PATs in the Wildcats’ 37-30 double-overtime victory against then-No. 10 Utah. He converted field goal tries of 47, 40 and 35 yards with his final attempt tying the game and forcing a second overtime. Skowron also booted five of his six kickoffs to the endzone for touchbacks and made one tackle on special teams. His kicking helped limit Utah to an average starting field position of its own 22-yard line.

Washington State Upsets UCLA With Local Pride

Pasadena, Ca –  The local player from Venice High now a Red shirt Junior Wide Receiver for the Washington State Cougars Gabe Marks scores the winning touchdown with .03 seconds on clock. Washington State came into Rose Bowl looking for a victory and came away gaining some respect with 31-27.

This game had a bunch of little story lines and post season bowl positions on the line for both teams. Cougars quarterback Luke Falk was the one of the team heroes coming into the game running coach Leach offense well. Falk was knocked out the game in the second quarter but went through the pre concussion protocol and cleared his head during halftime. This gutty performance passing 38/53 331 yards and 3 touchdowns, non bigger than 21 yarder to Marks for the win. No matter how much the Bruins front seven pressured him he just kept finding a way get first downs.

UCLA defense was able to stop the traditional running game hold the Cougars to 61 gross yards. The quick outs, and slants as new age running game ate the Bruins up.  The late interception in endzone by Jaleel Wadood  to stop Washington State from scoring late in 4th quarter setting up what Bruin hopefuls were wishing for a victory. The Bruins got the ball on 20 yard line with 3:13, 3 timeouts and 80 yards to a victory. Freshman Josh Rosen who had not thrown a touchdown all game need to find away to put this Bruin team on his back. 10 players later the Rose Bowl was all energized by uncharacteristic 37 yard run by Rosen who saw a big hole on the scramble. The magic was short lived because the Cougars had just enough time for the upset.

During the post game press conference Bruin Coach Jim Mora spoke about the offense sputtering in first half settling for two earlier field goals verses two touchdowns. Coach spoke on the end of the game but told his players, “We have to focus on plays during game that led up to last plays first.” So you can see the big picture of coach Mora knowing that his team has to play for the full 60 minutes to get results they need.

The Pac-12 south is still in sight and each of the top three teams control their own destiny with two games to play. So who ever can win out will get the nod for Pac-12 Championship game, so will be Utah, USC, or UCLA? We will be able to have clearer picture next Saturday when Bruins travel to Utah for another tough battle in Pac-12 conference.

Los Angeles, CA – The USC Trojans men’s basketball team hosted the San Diego Toreros at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.

On paper these two teams gave the impression that they were equally matched. Both teams being very light on seniors in their lineup and having an ample amount of returning underclassmen, but that was truly an illusion. The Trojans sent the Toreros back to San Diego with a huge loss 83 – 45.

The Trojans came out of the tip off with all intentions maintaining their winning streak over the Toreros.  The Trojan’s field goal percentage was at all most 49% in the first half verses the Toreros mere 21%, which was a contributing factor to USC being up 23 points at the half. At no time was the Trojans lead ever in danger.

USC owned the floor with Jordan McLaughlin putting up 20 points and 3 others in double digits (Bennie Boatwright, Julian Jacobs and Elijah Stewart). In addition to out scoring the Toreros, the Trojans also issued out lessons in defensive rebounding. The Trojans pulled down 40 defensive rebounds giving infinite second chance opportunity. Now it should be noted that Chimezie Metu is in route to being a blocking machine he just needs to get a touch stronger in his ball handling skills then he will be utterly dangers.

San Diego clearly was still trying to adjust to their new coaching staff’s ( Head Coach Lamont Smith and Assistant Coaches Russell Springmann, Sam Scholl, Chris Gerlufson) way of playing ball. There were several times during the game when they lacked confident about where everyone was suppose to be on the play as if it were their first time playing together. USD did have a few rays of sunshine during the Trojan rainstorm with Hunter Summy’s beautiful 3 point shot with a assist from Tyler Williams and Duda Sanandze contribution of 12 points.

This was USC season opener and they did it in great Hollywood fashion. Hopefully this is a glimpse into their season’s future.

Don’t Be Scared

“Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you…I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand…”

Isaiah 41:10

We all face times in life that feel out of our control.

In the tough times, it’s easy to get discouraged and allow fear to creep in; but instead, why not focus on the fact that God is holding you in the palm of His hand!

Nothing is too difficult for God; and nothing is beyond His ability. He is our Father, and will graciously see us through the storm.

When God holds us, we are safe; and our security is guaranteed! In His hand, there is victory, strength, power, provision, and ALL that we need!

No matter what you may be going through today, you can trust that God is for you.

Instead of giving up and getting depressed over our circumstances, we need to look up and see GOD! As we keep our hearts and minds focused on Him, we will see Him move in ways beyond what our minds could ever imagine!

Remember, when you don’t have the strength to hold yourself up, His hand is there… and HE will!

Don’t fear! He’s got you IN HIS HANDS!!!!!!

San Diego, Ca – Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears show off for the national audience on Monday Night Football. The Bears defeated the Chargers 22-19 in an exciting comeback victory. Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers did as much as he could to find that elusive victory.

The hero today was a very emotional Cutler, who hit rookie tight end Zach Miller for 25 yard go ahead touchdown with 3:19 remaining in the game. Cutler threw for 345 yards completing 27/40 passes on the night. He made fellow Vanderbilt Commodores alum from ESPN First Take Skip Bayless proud with this victory. The running game helped slow down the Chargers pass rush with the play action pass because Bears running back Jeremy Langford from Michigan State was pounding away with 18 carries and 72 rushing – 70 yards receiving. It’s like Langford just kept getting stronger as game progressed.

San Diego showed earlier that they are only few plays away from success jumping out to 13-0 lead. As the team went into locker room at halftime holding a 9 point lead you expected a possible victory coming their way. Rivers passed for 280 yards in the game finding 6 different receivers in the process. But it was enough to overcome a late loss of emotion by Steve Johnson who caught a great first down pass to take team to the Chicago 4 yard line. After the catch Johnson was flagged for a delay of game penalty for spiking the ball in the field of play that resulted in 5 yard penalty, moved them back 9 yards. With that break Chicago dug in and made the Chargers settle for field goal which was only 4 point lead with (19-14) with 7:53 left in fourth quarter. A touchdown there would have made an 8 point led who knows maybe even enough to win.

This Chicago Bears team seemed to come alive in the fourth quarter scoring 15 points. For the fans in attendance at Qualcomm felt the Bear fans come alive. It seems far too often that teams come to San Diego and are pleased to see their fan base take over the stadium. Tight end Miller said, “It was pretty cool that the Chargers had to use silent count on few drives.” Which was due to so many loud cheering Bear fans.

The Bears move to 3-5 on the season and have a date in St. Louis next Sunday to face the Rams. The San Diego Chargers are now 2-7 and have a bye week to rest and get ready to host the visiting Kansas City Chiefs in a must win game to compete AFC West.

SAN FRANCISCO – Quarterback Luke Falk of WASHINGTON STATE, linebacker Gionni Paul of UTAH and tight end Raymond Hudson of CALIFORNIA have been named offensive, defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.

Falk, a redshirt sophomore quarterback from Logan, Utah, threw for 497 yards, completing 36-of-55 passes and five touchdowns to four different receivers with one interception in Washington State’s come-from-behind, 38-24 win over Arizona State. After a slow first half, Luke completed 20-of-27 passes for 349 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the second half. All four touchdown drives in the second half were more than 70-yard drives. In the fourth quarter alone, Falk completed 11-of-26 passing for 238 yards and three touchdowns, helping the Cougars to their third come-from-behind win of the season as they trailed 21-17 entering the final quarter. Falk’s passing yardage was the third-highest of a Pac-12 quarterback this season, and he owns the top two marks as well. This is Falk’s third Conference weekly honor of the season, also earning the accolade on Sept. 14 and Oct. 26.

Paul, a senior linebacker from Winter Haven, Fla., was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week after accounting for two of Utah’s four takeaways in the Ute’s 34-23 victory over Washington. Paul returned a fumble 54 yards for a touchdown and returned an interception 27 yards to the Washington 8-yard line, ultimately setting up a touchdown. He had nine total tackles and a game-high two sacks, including a key sack in the third quarter on 3rd-and-6 at the Utah 30-yard line. His sack forced the Huskies who were then trailing by four points to punt. This is Paul’s second Pac-12 weekly honor this season, previously winning the award on Sept. 14.

Hudson, a sophomore tight end from Pleasanton, Calif., blocked one punt and recovered another blocked punt in the 44-28 loss to Oregon. Both punt blocks led to 14 points for the Golden Bears. Hudson’s first blocked point on the first possession of the game gave Cal a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Hamilton Anoa’i blocked the second punt on Oregon’s first drive of the third quarter, with Hudson recovering the blocked punt and advanced it two yards. The recovery led to a Cal touchdown and cut the Oregon margin, 31-21. The pair of blocked punts is tied for the most in the nation and the most in the Conference in 2015. It was the first time the Golden Bears have blocked two punts in a game since 2003.

Pittsburgh, Pa – Big Ben Roethlisberger wins the war but may lose the battle in 38-35 victory over the visiting Oakland Raiders. Before leaving the game midway in 4th quarter Roethlisberger had connected 24 passes for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns. These stats seem all to irrelevant when they came at cost of losing him to foot injury that may sideline Roethlisberger for rest of the season.

The Raiders had seemed to gelling the last few weeks with wins over Chargers, Jets before traveling to the mid-west to Heinz field. Derek Carr had sliced up the Steelers defense for 301 yards of his own finding big play targets  Michael Crabtree & Amari Cooper for 3 of his 4 touchdown passes. In first quarter on 1st 10 from 22 yard line Carr struck first with a nice pass to Crabtree who went up high to snatch a 7-0 lead. All day the Raiders were able to answer back when the Steelers hit score board.

The passing game was what worked for both offensives today. Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown didn’t care who throw him the ball his hands and feet were on fire. Brown caught a key 57 yard reception from backup Landry Jones on Pittsburgh’s final drive to set up Chris Boswell’s winning kick. Brown kept the Raiders secondary on their toes all day, 17 receptions with 284 yards.  It was one incredible single game performance. Oakland safety said “I really don’t know what to say but ‘Wow,'”, who spent most of the day futilely chasing Brown around Heinz Field.

These two teams will be fighting for a wildcard spot as we continue in this second half of the regular season. This game today may be worth even more down the stretch. The Raiders (4-4)  defense will get stronger and be ready to defend their home field in a match up next Sunday November 15th verse Minnesota Vikings (6-2). The Steelers (5-4) will host divisional rival Cleveland  Browns (2-7) before getting that bye week after that.

Los Angeles,Ca - The Los Angeles City Section has seeded it's team for all three divisions and few of the historical school will have the opportunity to hoist the trophy. The was no surprise Narbonne Gauchos was given a #1 seed and will face #16 Eagle Rock in an interesting first round match up. Then the Los Angeles High Romans even with a tie in last league took the Divisional II #1 seed against #16 Bell Eagles at home.

There will be few interesting potential second round match ups that will be must see games like #3 Garfield hosting #6 Crenshaw & marine league rematch Narbonne vs #8 San Pedro. Once you reach the playoffs its win or go home so there is nowhere to hide just be ready for the next challenge.

Los Angeles, Ca – Are the Trojans trying to regain their identity of Student body Left then right. The found some success in the running game defeating Arizona 38-30 at the Coliseum. The defense stood up in the first half, to give time for its offense to warm up the ground game.

Homecoming weekend what better time to enjoy meeting up with old friends and remembering the glory days. It’s been a little rough after the Reggie Bush era and that great run with former coach Pete Carroll. The visiting Arizona Wildcats coming in off two losses in row and are still searching to break this losing streak.

Coming out at the half with the game 17-17 and USC receiving the second half kick. New head coach Clay Helton said in the second half we are going to look to establish the run. They offensive was able to get the ground game started in second quarter behind the quick one foot cut in ground Ronald Jones II who put a first quarter touchdown on the board and ate up some clock for ball control offense.

On 4th and 2 with 2:26 left on the clock Arizona goes for it at mid field with a read option play that was stuffed for no gain that resulted in turnover on downs late in 3rd quarter.  Then USC trailing by three points drove half the field for an earlier 9 yard Justin Davis run to cap off a seven play drive in 4th quarter. The Trojans took the lead and never look back at that point.

Coach Helton stayed with the run, few series later running back Ronald Jones exploded down field like a rocket for 74 yards. This run showed speed, toughness and determination to score, bring the game to 31-23 9:24 left in 4th quarter. The Trojans freshmen backfield duo of Davis & Jones today grounded out 262 yards on 35 touches 4 touchdowns (Jones 177 yards, Davis 85 yards).

The Wildcats in the midst of playing back-to-back road games and their finishing regular season with three of its last four games on the road. The fiery Coach Rich Rodriguez of Arizona was determined today not to let his Cats get shut out without an offensive touchdown against the Trojans.

The Trojans showed flashes of greatness and will need this type of performance to finish strong for rest of the season. They will have short week to prepare for Colorado on Friday night November 13 for their next game. But they will have extra days as a result to prepare for Oregon the week after. Great Win and now the Trojans fans are guaranteed to be Bowl-ing this post season.
