Pasadena, Ca – With emotions all over on Senior Night the UCLA Bruins football team came through with a big win over the California Bears 30-27 Friday night under the lights.
Now with this win the Bruins have went a perfect 6-0 at home and are bowl eligible to extend their fired coach Jim Mora legacy.
Backup UCLA quarterback Devon Modster led his team in two minute drill being tied at 27-27 with 2:18 left in regulation. Modster picked up 4 first downs in ten plays to set up J.J. Molson 37 yard game winning field goal.
“Every kicker visualize that game winning kick,” said Molson “It’s a big win for us.”
Modster started the second half after Josh Rosen for UCLA took a few big hits in first half and as precaution. The two carved up the Cal defensive for a combined 393 yards with two touchdowns.
When UCLA need a big play they called up receiver Jordan Lasley who finished with 227 yards on 12 catches with a touchdown. With this performance Lasley moved up to 6th on UCLA all time single season yards 1,136 in only 8 games.
“Stay cool come and collective and I got your back” said Lasley “Devon is a beast.”
After this performance by Modster the UCLA future looks bright, he came in and able to move the team down the field.
“Jlas (Lasley) made a great catch” said Modster, “We had a lot of energy on the side line.”
California in defeat still had running back Patrick Laird rush for 178 yards on 32 carries on the Bruins.
Quarterback Ross Bowers threw for 242 yards completing 25/41 passes with only a single touchdown in the air.
UCLA Jedd Fisch is now 1-0 as interim head coach and will have one more game to coach the Bruins to victory.
“Our players are so excited that they get to go to a bowl game, and are 6-0,” said head coach Fisch, “We owed this win to coach Mora.”
