Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Sparks current title of Best record in the WNBA is still intact after beating the New York Liberty 77 – 67. This win marks the third time in the regular season that the Sparks have beaten the New York Liberty.
This matchup had a lot of bragging rights on the line as each team represented the top of the food chain for their conference division. But tonight the Sparks wanted the win just a little bit more and proved it. Birthday girl Nneka Ogwuike gave the fans the birthday gifts with a of total 22 points for the game to go along with her 15 rebounds.“It wasn’t a breeze. It was hard,” Ogwumike said about today’s victory. Candace Parker and Kristi Toliver both put up 15 points apiece.
Statistically this game was a fair match up. New York played a good game. Showing they would not fall into the same pitfalls of their last match up with Los Angeles, curtailing their turnovers and stepping up their offense of rebounds game. This kept the game from being a complete blowout, in addition it was very effective at just about killing all of the Sparks’s second chance opportunities. In the end Tina Charles’s 27 points and Sugar Rogers’s 14 points would be in vain which would in inevitably lead to pure frustration as Tina Charles and Coach Bill Laimbeer would both end up with technical fouls for the game.
The Sparks get two days off to celebrate the Fourth of July and recuperate before they host Indiana on Wednesday, July 6. Will this give them enough time off to recharge in hopes of defending their current winning record? And how will that record look after they return from their extensive 9 game road trip that starts on July 13th? The plot thickens!
