Tacoma, Wa- The Skyline Spartans will be riding a great swell of emotion into the Championship game after upsetting Lake Stevens in a hard fought 37-34 victory. The big story line was suppose to be about Lake Stevens quarterback the Georgia commit Jacob Eason but tonight it was all about Blake Gregory for Skyline.
Anytime Skyline need a big play Gregory delivered, he threw, he ran & flat out willed his team to victory. Gregory had 503 yards of total offense, 436 yards passing, 3 touchdowns & rushed for 70 yards with rushing touchdown. The Spartans pro style offense was run almost to perfection by their signal caller.
The Skyline Spartans can in with a chip on their should ready to shock the world. Before they took the field you could hear one captain say, “The don’t respect us, but after tonight the will!”. Those words rang so clear after the win the ended with the last deep pass towards end zone the was intercepted by Danny Sinatro with no time on clock. You could see the great disappointment on the Vikings faces.
This game had some many momentum swings and just impressive plays by both teams wanting to represent District 1 in the championship game. Eason had solid game throwing for 390 yards with a pair touchdowns. You could see that he has strong arm but the coaches game plan was not to throw deep too often. So not till late in fourth quarter did you see full strength of his arm but by then the Spartans defense was so jacked up on emotion that they declared a no fly zone. Spartan Colin Huber was matched up against Vikings best and came through big with tight coverage when it was need the most.
Skyline last touchdown drive that was all on Gregory’s shoulders, went 7 plays for 94 yards. Their first play from their own 6 yard line was 33 yard completion to Kai Kang. Most teams would played it safe with a run but, not the Spartans. They capped drive off with 27 yard strike to Bradley Kim for go ahead touchdown 37-34.
Now the Skyline Spartans will face the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups from District 5 next Saturday back at Tacoma Dome for the right to be call 4A Champions.
