Boulder, CU – The Utah Utes came into Folsom Field on a mission to defeat the Colorado Buffaloes and weather. The snow and the Buffaloes could not slow down the Utes who secured a spot in the PAC-12 Championship to represent  the South after 30-7 victory.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever been around a team that handles adversity any better than these guys; they’ve got a lot of guts and a lot of toughness,” Kyle Whittingham said.

Utah jumped on Colorado in third quarter with 17 unanswered points on the ice field.

Quarterback Jason Shelley threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns hitting 7 different targets.

In third Shelley threw 47 yard touchdown pass Jaylen Dixon that made the score 17-7.

After Colorado struck light lighting scoring in first quarter on a 7 play Travon McMillian touchdown run for 13 yards the Buffaloes went cold.

In the second half the Utah Defense held Colorado to average of 4.25 plays per possession.

“We’re just inept on offense right now, and that’s the best way to put it,” MacIntyre said. “We’ve got to find a way to move the ball better and get some points. The defense played OK at times, they just got worn down.

“This has been a tough stretch, there’s no doubt about it.”

Colorado quarterback Steven Montez only threw for 84 yards with 13 competitions.

“As an offense, we have to find a way to execute, because the defense is holding us down and they’re holding their own,” said senior receiver Juwann Winfree, who finished with three receptions for 54 yards. “They kept getting stops, and we weren’t doing anything on offense.”

Now Colorado after such a promising start of the season has come to just halt. They played four games in the PAC-12 where just a few things needed to go their way to make this season on a different path.

The Utah Utes win their first-ever South title and a berth in the Pac-12 championship game next weekend against the winner of Saturday’s Apple Cup between Washington and Washington State.
