LOS ANGELES, CA — Angel Reese dominated the glass with 26 rebounds and added 11 points for a powerful double-double, while the Atlanta Dream displayed poise and team character in a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday night at Crypto.com Arena.
Reese’s relentless work around the basket helped Atlanta control the tempo and second-chance opportunities throughout the game. Her 26 rebounds were the defining statistic of a contest in which the Dream repeatedly extended possessions, battled through physical play and made enough plays late to hand the Sparks another difficult loss.

“It feels like a blessing,” Ogwumike said. “I’ve always been the type of player that said that I didn’t want to get dragged off the court, but I do feel like you know what I have left. I’m pouring into these last few games, and I’m grateful to be doing it in this uniform and also being able to hopefully have an impact on some of my teammates, most especially Cam here. We have a very unique and very sisterly bond.”
That relationship with Cameron Brink has become an important part of the Sparks’ leadership transition. Brink has embraced the opportunity to learn from Ogwumike while developing her own voice as a leader.
“I think Nneka has taught me you don’t have to say much, but when you speak up, make sure it’s important, people feel included and you’re meeting them where they’re at,” Brink said. “I feel like I still have a long way to go, and I’m still building my confidence in that sense. But I do feel like the more I talk, the more together we feel as a team, so I’m just going to keep leaning on that.”
Brink also credited Ogwumike’s professionalism and preparation for helping her mature as a player.
“For me, I think it’s just experience,” Brink said. “I’ve had a rough go so far in this league, but I haven’t let it discourage me. I know my time will come.”
Brink said watching Ogwumike arrive early to practice, do her work and ask questions has provided a blueprint for handling the demands of the league.
While the Sparks fell short, the night represented another opportunity for the organization’s younger players to learn from a veteran core that understands the importance of preparation, communication and resilience.
Atlanta, meanwhile, left Los Angeles with a victory that showcased its collective identity. Reese supplied the rebounding dominance, but the Dream’s ability to execute together ultimately decided the game.
