“That was a tough game,” USC coach Andy Enfield said. “We had a couple chances to win or take the lead at the end. We missed two wide open 3s and they got two layups.”

Nick Rakocevic gave USC an early 10-6 lead on a two-hand dunk. USC made 37.9 percent of its first-half shots and Colorado made 35.7 percent of its shots as they went into halftime tied at 29.

Bennie Boatwright led USC with 24 points and Shaqquan Aaron added 13 points. The loss dropped the Trojans into fifth place in the Pac-12.

“It was a typical Pac-12 game,” Enfield said. “It’s usually close at halftime. It was a matter of defending and executing. We didn’t play a bad game tonight. But they had a lot of layups.”

USC’s next game will be at Stanford on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m.

Atlanta, GA – With a buzzing downtown filled with people from everywhere jerseys from a bunch of teams in the NFL the real heroes “The Fans” are ready for Super Bowl LIII.

We kicked off the year with 32 teams all setting the same goal of holding up the Vince Lombardi Trophy today February 3, 2019. This date was ingrained in every player head, marked in their mental rolodex.

Now the day is actually upon us the New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Rams in a battle to hold the crown of Champions.

For the last two weeks the story lines have went two different directions.

New England Patriots Dynasty with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady winning five Super Bowls from 2001 – 2018. They kicked off Super Bowl wins in 2001 against the then St. Louis Rams in tough 20-17 match up.

So this game could be the perfect bookends to a great marriage if Patriots could finish with the team they started this deal out with.

Once you flip the coin you have the Young flash Los Angeles Rams coached by Sean McVay who only 33 years-old being the youngest head coach to appear in a Super Bowl.

McVay in only his second season as head coach has the 3rd year quarterback Jared Goff at the helm to lead this team into battle.

If the Rams win this Super Bowl LIII, they can look to start their own Dynasty here in Atlanta. This team has complete team with stars on both sides of the ball and are ready for the challenge.

The world will be watching tonight while the lights seem to shine the brightest in the Super Bowl.

San Diego, CA – After a 36 Hole lead Justin Rose never looked back winning the 2019 Farmers Open by two strokes at (-21 under par). Holding on to the No 1 spot in the world Rose will enjoy this million dollar purse.

“I mean, 21 under par at Torrey Pines is great golf obviously, but you had to do it,” said Rose,  “I was expecting someone to make a challenge and I thought the way my group was playing, obviously Adam, Jon, none of us were getting off to a great start.”

Playing in the final group alongside Rose was Adam Scott who finished second place (-19 under par) there to give a little push through on the day. Scott’s card had five birdies and one costly bogie on the 5th hole.

“Overall my game is most improved from two weeks ago at Sony,” said Scott, “It’s hard to beat when you’re 3 back around this golf course.

Scott had a shaky front nine, while Rose was playing ok golf and opening a small crack in the doorway. From tee to green was where his troubles came from, while his new putter was going well when needed.

There wasn’t anyone else really there to challenge Rose on Sunday after he fought to dial it in on the back nine. Rose hit 3 birdies but more importantly no more bogies as did on the front nine.

Now when it came to galleries and crowd noise hand down Tiger Woods who made the cut to stay and play the weekend had a following. He was on back nine first being 13 shots off the lead to start the day.

The crowd came out earlier to see Tiger in that Sunday red, but he shook the crowd wearing a red shirt with white stripes that almost look fuchsia at times from afar.

“Each day I got a little bit better, which was nice,” said Woods “Well, it was nice to shake off some rust and see what I need to work on.”

Woods will be back in two week to play at the Genesis Open, while some from this field will go to Scottsdale next for the Phoenix Open.

With this win Rose will for sure still hold No 1 ranking in the world going into his next tour stop. Now Rose wins 10th PGA TOUR title to become the winningest player from England since 1945.

“Winning is difficult out here, it’s never easy, so to get it out the way(tour win),” said Rose, “I guess to win in the position I am in the world rankings, too, kind of makes it — there’s a few little extra special pieces that make this win a fun one.”

Mobile, Al – With the Reese’s Senior Bowl format of rotating quarterbacks, it can be difficult for the QB’s to get into a rhythm with their unfamiliar receiving core before their time is up.

For the North’s QB Daniel Jones (Duke) it didn’t seem to be an issue.  Jones threw 8 of 11 for 115 yards, a rushing and a passing touchdown.  Earning him the MVP of the game.

On what his game performance meant, Jones said, “Just showing the poise and showing kind of a comfort in the offense is something they wanted to see.”

The South jumped out to an early lead with QB Will Grier (W. Virginia) under center for the in the first quarter, throwing for 4 of 8 for 61 yards to put them up 9 to nothing.

Jones entered the game with only 1:35 left in the 2nd quarter and headed into the half down 3 to 12, but the third is were the North’s offense start to click under him.

In the first possession of the second half, he capped off a 10 play 84 yard series, by taking it into the end zone himself with a 1 yard run.

The North’s defense added to the momentum with Te’von Coney (Notre Dame) recovering a loose ball caused by  Charles Omenihu’s (Texas) sack of QB Jarrett Stidham (Auburn).

Jones would take quick advantage of the turnover, with a 25 yard pass to wide receivers Terry McLaurin ( Ohio State) and a 19 yard TD pass to Andy Isabella (UMass)to make 17-12.

Isabella lead the North in receiving with 7 reception for 74 yards.  Follow by WR Keelen  Doss (UC Davis) 4 for 55 and McLaurin’s 4 for 53 yards.

North coach Jon Gruden remarked on the 2nd half turnaround and what he said in the locker room, “No adjustment.  I told them just adjust your own mindset.  Come out and finish with authority.”

The South would fight back in the fourth with QB Tyree Jackson (Buffalo) taking the snaps.  Jackson would post the highest passing yards of the game, going 13 of 21 for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

The South would have a failed 2 point conversion for each of those fourth quarter TD’s.  That, along with the North’s Finley’s (N Carolina State) 83 yards passing yards and the 2 rushing touchdowns of Tony Pollard (Memphis) and Dexter Williams (Notre Dame), the South could not make up the deference.

Coach Gruden said of his team, “Really proud of our players and our coaches. It’s fun to win no matter what the circumstances.  The whole team impressed me.”

San Diego, CA -After 36 holes of golf at Torrey Pines you can start to see who’s in the running to be in final groups on Sunday.

Justin Rose went to the South Course and held his own taking the No 1 spot at (-15 under par) with 7 birdies and three stroke lead.

“Anytime you equal that (66), you know you’ve gone out there and you’ve put a good round together,” said Rose, “Obviously you never quite know what to expect on the South course.”

After landing in the bunker on the 4 hole, he honed in to hit three birdies in a row. These seemed to kick start the round.

Hideki Matsuyama is in second at (-12 under par) after two consecutive rounds of 66 on North and South course. The par 5 hole 6 Matsuyama dropped an Eagle too gain two strokes to go with his five birdies.

“The eagle at 6, hit a great drive down the right side, I think about a 4-iron in just short of the green, chipped it up and knocked it in for an eagle there,” said Matsuyama, “Two chip-ins really helped out today, but I hit the ball well.”

The South course was not that kind to few others golfers on day two, after two days the South played 2 strokes tougher.

Day one leader Jon Rahm dropped too tie in third still at (-10 under par) shooting even par on the South course.

Ryan Palmer moved up the leaderboard to be tied for third (-10 under par) with seven birdies on the North course to move in striking distance for the weekend.

“Wind’s allowed the golf course to be gettable, and softer greens, too,” said Palmer, “Just the way the game is now for me, these type of golf courses I look forward to the most and it takes a driver of the golf ball to play these courses well. So far I’ve been doing a good job.”

The cut line for the Farmers Open this year was -3 under par after 36 holes, which left 77 golfers for the weekend.

“Just right now they’re just not going in. It’s one thing to be searching for it, but at least I’m hitting good putts,” said Woods, “I’m going to have to play a very special weekend to have a chance, I’m pretty far back, and the South course, it’s tough.”

USC blows out Arizona, snaps five-game losing streak to Wildcats

The Pac-12 conference race is heating and with Arizona sitting at second place, USC is right behind them after a blowout win over crosstown rival UCLA.

USC completely dominated Arizona as Nick Rakocevic scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help the Trojans to a 80-57 victory over the Wildcats Thursday at the Galen Center.

This is the Trojans first win over Arizona since 2016 and its the largest margin of victory over the Wildcats since 1974. USC won its sixth consecutive home game and improved to 4-0 in home conference games this season.

“That was a nice win,” USC coach Andy Enfield said. “We played very well together once again. Our zone defense was outstanding, we were challenging shots. Anytime you can beat a good team like Arizona, credit to the players and how hard they played.”

The Trojans’ defense was tough throughout the game, holding Arizona to 27.8 percent shooting from the field. USC played 40 minutes of zone defense and Enfield said he has never done that before in his career, but it was working.

USC defeated UCLA and Arizona in back-to-back games for the first time since 2016 when it defeated Arizona 103-101 in four overtimes at home and then won at UCLA 89-75. Prior to that, the last time was the 1982 season.

“Anytime you beat UCLA and Arizona back-to-back is impressive,” Enfield said. “I’m proud how we’ve improved in the last month. We have a long way to go still. We haven’t arrived yet.”

Rakocevic recorded his ninth double-double of the season and Bennie Boatwright added a double-double of his own with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

“This is the first time in my career that we’ve beaten Arizona,” Rakocevic said. “We wanted this one. We knew if we played hard and played defense, we’d win. Beating UCLA and Arizona back to back has gotten our momentum going. It has sunk in what needs to be done to win games.”

Kevin Porter Jr. returned to the lineup after missing two games due to suspension and scored 14 points, making three three-pointers.

“Kevin came in and played in the flow of the offense and defense,” Enfield said.”He stepped up and made shots and got to the line. He had a nice game. He needs to continue to improve.”

USC’s next game will be against Arizona State at the Galen Center on Saturday at 5 p.m.

San Diego, CA – The beloved Torrey Pines on day 1 has the top 5 players on the leaderboard from the North Course. Jon Rahm finished his round with a score of (-10 under par) to hold a slim one shot lead over Justin Rose and Doug Ghim (-9 under par).

The crowd favorite Tiger Woods started out on the South Course which today played about three strokes harder than the North Course. Wood finished with a workingman’s 70 (-2 under par) for his first round on the 2019 season.

“I felt like I drove the pretty good today even though I missed a few fairways, but they were controllable,” said Woods, “It will be a lot easier. I’ve got a competitive round under my belt.”

The defending champion from 2018 Jason Day came back to defend his title. Day finished with (-5 under par) on the North Course.

“Shooting 5 under out there was pretty good, but getting beat by a guy who shot 10 under, it’s amazing to watch,” said Day, “So the course wasn’t playing as long as it could have been, but once again, the greens are relatively new, so they’re firm.”

Ram will look to play aggressive Friday on the tougher South Course, and he no stranger just two years ago in 2017 he won the Farmers Open.

“Starting with an eagle, obviously it’s a huge thing,” Said Ram, “The biggest thing is going to be the weather and how much wind you get because those fairways are so narrow.”

Brandon Hagy led the golfers on the South Course with (-6 under par) to be tied for sixth place with nine other golfers after the first round.

The players will all swap courses and hope the weather stays nice like it was today to allow for another great day of scores.

The local hometown favorite Xander Schauffele shot (-3 under par) playing in a group with Tiger. Schauffele heard the chats of ‘Go Aztec’ thought out his round, being a San Diego State Alum.

“It’s fine, it’s Torrey South, you’re not going to hit many fairways in general,” said Schauffele, “Just need to keep playing how I’m playing and we’ll see where the cards fall.”

Friday’s rounds will tee off at 9am on both course, from 1st and 10th tee.

West Lafayette, IN  — First the wrestling team, then the  men’s team and now the women’s basketball team; all three defeated a rival Indiana University this weekend.

Freshman Kayana Traylor led the Lady Boilermakers in the upset at home against the 25th ranked IU Hoosiers. Traylor attacked the Hoosiers with mid range shots from the left side of the lane. With 15 points, 5 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from the foul line, she set a new career high in the win.
This rivalry matchup was played close by both teams. The lead changed seven times throughout and was tied up 11 times.

The biggest difference on the court came down to foul trouble. IU shot 5/6 on foul shots. The high success rate didn’t factor in when Purdue was at the line 21 times and drained 16 of them.

Purdue’s standout guard Karissa McLaughlin went 6/6 from the foul line, adding to her 14 total points. The shots Purdue was allowed from the foul line gave it the advantage of scoring more as well as remaining outside of foul trouble.
A change in the defensive approach after halftime allowed Purdue to limit IU’s shooting. A clean full court press trapped the Hoosier’s Bendu Yeaney with minimal mistakes. IU scores 18 in the second period and then was held to just 11 and 10 in the remaining two.

The full court defensive gave the Boilers 19 points from turnovers, opposed to IU’s 11.

The final minutes consisted of several ties and lead changes. Purdue would be trailing by one with under four minutes left when McLaughlin worked her way to the post for 2. Another clutch 2 from McLaughlin gave Purdue the lead with seconds left.
Missing from Purdue’s game was any type of range. Traylor and Cassidy Hardin hit the only shots outside the circle. The team was 2/8 on 3s. IU finished 6/16.

Los Angeles, CA – The USC basketball team came into the matchup with crosstown rival UCLA on a four-game losing streak against the Bruins.

USC junior forward Nick Rakocevic scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help USC to a dominating 80-67 win over UCLA Saturday at the Galen Center.

Bennie Boatwright added 21 points and made a season-high five three-pointers. USC won its fifth consecutive home game and improved to 3-0 in home conference games this season.

“It was important to get off to a good start,” USC head coach Andy Enfield said. “They came back, we knew they’d make a run. With 19 minutes to go, I thought our defense picked us up and we made shots.”

After UCLA’s Moses Brown tied it at 38, Boatwright drained back-to-back three’s to spark the Trojans 28-7 run in the second half. The Trojans led by as many as 26.

UCLA went scoreless over four minutes while USC went on a 14-0 run to take a 60-42 with 11:07 remaining in the game. The Trojans played suffocating defense in the second half, holding UCLA’s shooting to 37.8 percent.

“Last year, they came and beat us here,” Jonah Mathews said. “We couldn’t let that happen this year. It was personal for all of us.”

USC opened the game hitting 5-of-7 from the field and took 12-4 lead. The Bruins mounted a 10-2 run but still trailed, 18-14, with 11:04 left in the first half.

The Trojans scored seven straight points to end the first half with a 36-33 lead. USC had a season-high 26 assists and made 12 three-point baskets.

“We gave great effort,” Enfield said. “We challenged shots. We did a decent job on the boards. We rotated quickly. We got in front of them and made it hard for them to get to the basket.
