NEW YORK, NY– An epic comeback in Game 5 of the World Series helped the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the New York Yankees 7-6 on Wednesday, October 30th. Drowning in champagne in the locker room, the Dodgers celebrated their eighth World Series crown in franchise history, winning 4-1 over the Yankees.
The Boys in Blue erased a five run deficit as Dodgers First baseman Freddie Freeman earned World Series Most Valuable Player honors smashing four homers and 12 RBI’s.
Blake Treinen threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings to push the lead into the ninth, and then Walker Buehler slammed the door shut. The Dodgers finished a game in which the Bronx Bombers imploded.
It happened in the fifth with two outs Gerrit Cole had held the Dodgers hitless. But Kiké Hernández broke it up with a leadoff single. Tommy Edman then sent a fly ball Judge’s way in center field, and Aaron Judge simply and shockingly dropped the can of corn for his first error of 2024.
More proof that we are in the midst of a Dodgers Dynasty, it was the largest comeback of a World Series clincher in MLB history. Mookie Betts pounded his fists in the sky on a fielders choice in the 8th inning gave them their first lead of the night at 7-6.
These Dodgers have championship mettle. The resillience over the course of the season was truly impressive, rising to the occasion with all of the pressure of the City of Angels on their shoulders.
Two titles in four attempts since 2017 with no end in sight, we could get pretty used to this Dodger Nation.
The first World Series title since 2020, Shohei Ohtani’s first championship as a pro, Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts earned his second World Series crown as skipper.
Freddie Freeman’s walk off grand slam in Game 1 of the Fall Classic was such a monumental and iconic play, the Yankees were never able to recover. For Dodgers fans, it was shockingly similar to Kirk Gibsons walk off home run in Game 1 of the World Series against the Oakland Athletics.
That moment changed the trajectory of the series. Both Gibson and Freeman delivered in the clutch despite having bad lag injuries. Freeman had a sore ankle, although he has managed to hit home runs in six consecutive World Series games.
A truly inspiring individual, on and off the diamond.
He didn’t do much in the World Series, but Shohei Ohtani helped get the Dodgers there. He is now a World Series champion, a Japan Series champion and a World Baseball Classic champion.
Arguably the most talented player in the history of baseball now has the one big thing that was missing on his résumé, and all it took was joining a Dodgers team that needed him. His 2024 season will be legendary in Japan.
“This trophy belongs to everybody,” Roberts said. “Even when we were down 5-0, they persevered, kept fighting, and now we’re world champions.”
Now let’s talk about the partying. Due to COVID restrictions back in 2020, the Dodgers Were not able to have a championship parade of any sort. This time there will be a parade on Friday, and everyone is invited.
The Dodgers parade will be the morning of Friday, Nov. 1 starting at 11 a.m. The parade itself is expected to last about 45 minutes, followed by a special ticketed event at Dodger Stadium.
The parade will start at Gloria Molina Grand Park in front of City Hall on Spring Street. Mayor Karen Bass will kick off the parade, which will then make its way down 1st Street and march four blocks to S. Grand Avenue. From there, the parade heads to 5th Street, ending at 5th and Flower Street.
Parking gates at the stadium will open at 8:30 a.m. and ticketed attendees will be allowed to enter the stadium at 9 a.m. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase and the DodgerVision scoreboards will offer live coverage of the parade.
