LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s baseball team saw its seven-game winning streak snapped Thursday night by Chico State in a tense opener to a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series.

The Golden Eagles got outstanding pitching from Greg Humbert and Mitchell Moore, but couldn’t produce enough late-inning heroics and fell to the Wildcats, 3-2, at Reeder Field. Cal State L.A. (19-10, 14-7 CCAA) committed a costly fourth-inning error and left eight runners on base, including six in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Humbert pitched seven strong innings to give the Golden Eagles a chance. He allowed eight hits and three runs, but only two of them were earned. He walked one and struck out five in his longest outing of the season.

Moore entered the game in the eighth and was dynamic over the final two innings. He retired all six batters he faced, four of them by strikeout.

Kyle Peralta was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for Cal State L.A., while Jesus Cuevas was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Danny Miller was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. He had a pair of triple down the right-field line that were instrumental in the Chico State win. Dylan Garcia was 2-for-5.

Luke Barker went eight innings to get the win for Chico State. He allowed seven hits and only one earned run and was able to escape Cal State L.A. threats in the latter part of his start. Ryan O’Shea pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save of the season.

The Golden Eagles struck first in the second with an unearned run. Peralta doubled and scored with two outs when a ground ball from the bat of Paul Martinez was misplayed and then throw away.

Cal State L.A. helped Chico State get two runs in the fourth. An infield pop-up was dropped to start the inning and Miller cashed in the miscue with his first triple of the game. Sean Smith followed with a one-out single to score Miller and give Chico State a 2-1 lead.

Chico State made it 3-1 in the sixth. Miller tripled again and scored on a groundout by Clayton Gelfand.

The Golden Eagles didn’t score in the sixth after loading the bases with one out on a walk to Trent Zaks, a single by Rodrigo Martinez, a sacrifice bunt by Jesus Cuevas and an intentional walk to Peralta. The Golden Eagles didn’t score in the seventh inning, either, after Paul Martinez led off with a single.

Cal State L.A. made it 3-2 in the eighth when Peralta doubled home Cuevas with one out. Jake Jelmini was hit by a pitch, but Barker retired the next two batters to escape further trouble.

The Golden Eagles got the tying run aboard in the ninth when Nick Osuna drew a one-out walk. Trent Zaks hit a bullet on a 3-2 pitch that seemed destined for left field, but Garcia dove to his left to make the play and began a game-ending double play.

Cal State L.A. will continue the four-game series with Chico State in a doubleheader at Reeder Field beginning at 1 p.m.

A Greater Love

‘A Greater Love’

“For great is Your love, higher than the heavens.”

Psalms 108:4

The love of the Lord is indescribable at times..

He takes the broken hearted, and mends every piece. He takes the rejected and abandoned, and showers His acceptance and favor upon them.

It never matters how far you’ve strayed, or how long you’ve strayed, God’s arms are always stretched out and ready to receive the weary soul.

It is funny how the human mind thinks. When we are hurt or intentionally mistreated, we seek revenge and justification. We will even go as far to try and hurt the one who has hurt us even more than what they did to us.

Not so with the Father. We disobey daily, and yet He says “Come, I forgive you and I love you.”

We walk away from assignments that we ‘feel’ we can’t handle, and He says “It’s ok, get back up and try again, I am with you.”

Live Life on Purpose

‘Life On Purpose’

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Colossians 3:2

Everything that we experience on earth is but for a moment.

All of our successes, and  victories are but for a moment. The hurt, the disappointment, the tears, the loss, the suffering, the sickness… all of it is but for a moment in time.

Don’t get so attached to earthly possessions or experiences. Cherish them, rejoice for them, enjoy them, but don’t build a house there..rather pitch a tent.

All things on earth are temporary and subject to change. God gives us things to embrace and enjoy while we are here, occupying time until His return.

The friendships, relationships, our jobs, careers, and even our families will only be able to be shared on earth for a season…

That’s why it is so important to spend every moment ‘on purpose’! Tell those people that you care about how much they mean to you. Enjoy precious moments, and special moments, and take it all in…

One day, things will change, and when they do, you want to be in a place with God that says: ‘Thank you Lord for allowing me to have that experience…’ Now let Your will be done in Jesus’ name…

Live life ‘on purpose’.

Los Angeles, Ca-Golden Coast Conference rivals take it down to the last minute of play to declare a winner. The #17 San Diego State Aztecs (11-11, 4-0) take a close one over host #12 Loyola Marymount Lions (13-7, 0-1) with a controversial 9-8 victory. Just by luck both the goalkeepers had the same amount of saves as the score in reverse LMU Jordan White 9 saves, & SDSU Rachel Mitchell 8 saves.

Late in fourth period with 53 seconds left a game tied at 8-8 before defender Caitlin Schafer was called for a foul that was very suspect. Lions coach Kyle Witt pleaded his case to no avail. Just after that whistle junior utility player Taylor Gums takes a power shot for a goal and 9-8 edge. The Lions had few more shots at goal but were not successful.

Mackenzie Beck Poised About to Take Shot on Goal

The Lions chose to have their goalie the whole first half in the shade in of the pool, hoping the sun wouldn’t be much of a factor in the second half. The Aztecs helped their goalkeeper out in the second period not allowing only one shot on goal for the period. Mitchell really helped the Aztecs with five big saves only allowing two goals in first period. Senior utility player Mackenzie Beck played well and hard to keep her Lions in the game. Beck scored a goal in each of the first three periods to lead Lions in goals.

The Aztecs now have already won the fourth conference game after this, being led today by sophomore Caroline Israles with three goals to her point total. Today’s game was pretty physical with a total of 14 fouls calls. The refs may have been trying to control the game because these two teams are very familiar with each other, being that they last meet in GCC championship last year where the Lions won in overtime 8-7.

With less than ten games left for both teams if the Lions can do their part in their remaining 6 conferences games there could be a rematch at GCC in April. The Aztecs only have 2 conferences games left and look to be in the driver seat for post season play. Next up both teams will compete in Zumo LMU Invitational March 20th & 21st featuring Whittier, Princeton, Brown, Michigan, & Concordia.

Why is This Happening?

“Why is This Happening?”

“My brethren, count it all joy when trouble comes your way: knowing this, that the testing of your faith produces endurance.” James 1:2-3

What you are enduring right now is for your good! I know it doesn’t ‘feel’ good, but it’s going to work out for the good.

It is developing your spiritual muscles. It’s working patience in you for the journey.

Think of how far you’ve come. The things that used to get to you don’t get to you as much now. The things that used to worry  you all night and stay on your mind all day seem  to dissipate quicker now…

Now that you are spending time with God, you understand that when He allows something to come into your life, it is there on purpose, and that He has a plan for it.

You’ve even been able to help others understand it, because you’ve been through it.

Continue to give thanks and rejoice that once you come out of this, (just like He brought you out last time) you’re going to be even better, and that you are developing patience.

Los Angeles, Ca – On one of the hottest days in the Los Angeles Marathon 30 year history the Kenyans swept for men and women. With temperatures in mid 90’s for most of the race, Daniel Limo and Ogla Kimaiyo battled through to be victories in overall race. In the US only competition Jared Ward, Blake Russell take home USATF Marathon Championship.
The ASICS LA Marathon is an annual running event held each spring in Los Angeles, California. The 26.219 mile (42.195 km) footrace, inspired by the success of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, has been contested every year since 1986.

While there are no qualifying standards to be eligible to participate in the ASICS LA Marathon, runners wishing to receive an official time must successfully complete the course in 6.5 hours. To date there have been 481,487 official finishers. Los Angeles is a popular venue for novice marathoners, and on average 53 percent of the runners who make up the field are attempting a marathon for the first time.

The 53 percent of the field are the people like you, not professionals but love the thrill of running and experiencing that runners natural high. Being a Marathoner takes you to challenge your mindset to make sure your will is stronger than your body. There are so many different stories of how each runner made it to the course. Some lost a bet, a few were encouraged by friends, another group joined a training group like LA Leggers and trained last few months. But whatever their story is, they all have one goal to cross the finish line.

FI360news Peter 1In this 30th edition of the Stadium to the Sea, we followed the game day triumph of three races. First racer 52 year old Peter Burnett hails from New York via Jamaica but now resides in Los Angeles. A school teacher / track coach in Compton School district by day and weekend warrior with over 20 marathon’s in his spare time. Burnett has been running for years with a group of guys Saturday mornings at 5am before the sun comes shining out. Then during the week more speed and power training on the well known Stocker hill in the Baldwin Hills area. Burnett was attacking this race at great pace averaging sub eight minute miles, at the 30K mark his project finish was estimated at 3:32:33. This is a race where anything can happen, Burnett began to feel sick and at the 22nd mile marker he had to be check by paramedics who said it wasn’t life threatening and it was his chose to go on and finish. His mind was stronger, willing his way to finish line with still a great time with break 4:06.

Second racer 42 year old female May Hui, originally from Needles, Ca now loving Los Angeles as a matchmaker and founder of Catch Matchmaking : http://catchmatchmaking.com . This was Hui 2nd LA Marathon that she tackled both with a friend Olivia Bias. They both joined the LA Leggers who is a popular, highly respected training group out of Santa Monica, Ca. The race is a time to have fun and enjoy the thrill and high of conquering the 26.2 miles course. We caught up with Hui just after the 23rd mile maker where she spotted me taking pictures on the course, “Jevone! Great to see you.” I sent my words of encouragement of you are almost there. Now with the race finished, Hui said “I Finished! Not a P.R. but Finished in 5:10:29. Pace 11:51.” So those words tell us this won’t be her last marathon race, P.R. look out Hui will be back.

Father Mickey and Son Tee Barnes showing off Dads hardware.

Third Racer 47 year old Mickey Barnes of Santa Monica, Ca. This was Barnes 6th LA Marathon, he started to run them when course first changed to the new route. The route change has been a great for the racers and Owner Frank McCourt (former owner of Los Angeles Dodgers). We caught up with Barnes on Bundy Dr. switching out his race shoes to his more comfortable training shoes. The minute he put them on a smile came upon his face. This change was made possible by a phone call to his family and made a spot on the course route to have a meet and greet. Barnes son Tee raced from the Mom’s car parked who knows how far down the blocks. Tee had everything need a few aspirin, a cold vitamin water and Dad’s previous five medals around his neck. The Barnes hope is to have his son run by his side for the next one in 2016, where Tee will be of age to register. Who knows how many marathon the legacy will produce when it’s all said and done.

So will you be added to the 53 percent of first time marathoners next year Sunday February 14th, 2016?

the work is finished

“The Work is Finished”

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.

That does NOT mean that we are to live any kind of life that we want to causing the Grace of God to be cheapened.

There are many who say: ‘Oh now that Christ has paid for all of my sins past, present, and future, I can do my thing and He will forgive me!” That is deception from the enemy, and is a mockery of the cross!

For the believer in Christ, yes Jesus did die for all of the sins that we have committed, and for every one that we will commit. In contrast, that should not at all make is to believe that we have a license to live any kind of way. It should rather bring us to our knees, and to tears to see and experience this great sacrifice and great love!

It should cause us to DESIRE to live for Him even more, and give of ourselves freely to others!

What an amazing gift of love, that He would give to you and I…

What a loving Father we have..
