West Lafayette, IN- The Boilermakers could not overcome the crazy weather and two costly interceptions by Aidan O’Commell in the 24-3 defeat to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
“It was a bad day for us,” said Purdue coach Jeff Brohm “We got a lot of work to do.”
The Hawkeyes 376 yards total yards for the game wasn’t off the charts but solid enough for a Big Ten victory to keep fighting for a move in the bowl game selections.
Spencer Petras threw for 2 touchdowns and 192 yards completing 13/23 passes. As for most quarterbacks the big fellas are their security blankets. Tight end Sam LaPorta led his team with 71 yards 3 catches with a touchdown.
“We gotta be more efficient (passing game) , if not then we need to be more balance.” said coach Broham
Now Kaleb Johnson was a workhorse carrying the football 22 times for 200 yards and a touchdown. Johnson vision was a major factor for his 9.1 yards per carry average.
On third down Purdue was only able to pick up two first downs on 16 attempts. Only average 3.4 yards per play wasn’t close to be enough to get points on the score board.
The Boilermakers didn’t abandon the running game, Devin Mockobee carried 14 times for 65 yards against the Hawkeyes.
Now Iowa will host Wisconsin who is searching hard for wins. Purdue will have the opportunity to bounce back and travel to #14 Illinois and earn a hard fought win.
