Colorado drops Baylor in Overtime after Hail Mary

Boulder, CU – Home Coming Hail Mary As I stand at the goal line with Shedeur Sanders song Perfect Timing playing the background. I can’t help but think about my childhood on September 24, 1994 watching college football on a Saturday afternoon hearing Keith Jackson call a game between Colorado at Michigan with the Buffs down by 5 points with 0:6 seconds on the clock. As the ball is snapped to Kordell Steward (10) launch a 64 yard Hail bomb to the end zone that was tipped and landed in Michael Westbrook hands to end that game to shock Michigan in the Big House to win 27-26.

Fast forward 30 yrs to September 22,2024, it’s Home Coming in Boulder, Colorado I’m standing on the goal line Wrestling Icon Goldberg to my right. The Baylor Bears are leading Colorado 31-24 With 0:02 seconds remaining . The Buffalos student sections are in shock from the last dropped pass by sure handed Will Fuller on the 5 yard line . With the ball on the 43 yard line after being sacked 8 times. Shedeur Sanders dropped back to pass rolling left launches a pass to the end zone towards LaJohntay Webster who had one on one coverage caught the ball just before it got the grass . Sending the entire stadium into pandemonium as the official signal’s touchdown at the end of regulation to tie the game after a successful extra point by Alejandro Mata.

When asked about Webster touchdown catch “Sanders said I rolled left and everybody went to the middle of the end and just trusted God . I threw it up to God and God answer the prayer for sure” as he smiled.

Coach Primes Buffaloes had been down by as many as 14 points during the game. But thanks to a superhuman effort by sophomore wide receiver Omarion Miller when he refused to go down on a 58 yard touchdown pass from Sanders to cut the score within seven points of the Bears that Shedeur Sanders says says helped them get to that point to tie the game.

In the overtime freshman running back Micah Welch scored his second touchdown of the game lead by Colorodo run game that put Colorado ahead 38-31. Behind 91 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns lead by Arkansas transfer Isaiah Augustine with 41 yards Sanders adding 26 yards on the ground.

On Baylor’s first possession of overtime quarterback Sawyer Robertson lead the Bears to a a first and go within the 5 yard line . On what looked like a sure touchdown. Travis Hunter gave us Another reason to give him the front runner to win the Heisman Trophy. After forcing a fumble on the one yard line of Baylor running back Dominic Richardson that went out of bounds for a touchback .

Some might say “It was perfect Timing”

Hunter finished the game with 7 catches for 130 yards and 3 Solo tackles one forced fumble.
