Boise State defeats San Diego State 34-31

San Diego, CA – Boise State opened their Mountain West Conference play with a hard-fought 34-31 victory over San Diego State on Friday night at Snap Dragon Stadium.

Boise State was led by running back Ashton Jeanty, who rushed for a career-high 205 yards and two touchdowns. Jeanty also recovered the onside kick after San Diego State scored in the final minute to seal the win for the Broncos.

“I did feel as though we were running to the ball,” SDSU safety Cedarious Barfield said, “but kind of not getting there to make a play. We were kind of running there just to run there.”

Boise State quarterback Taylen Green also had a solid game, throwing for a touchdown and running for another. He finished the day with 162 yards passing on 12/22 attempts.

San Diego State was led by quarterback Braxton Burmeister, who threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Baylin Brooks caught 5 pass for 117 yards and only receiving touchdown. Brionne Penny had another solid performance with 5 catches for 97 yards.

However, the Aztecs also turned the ball over three times, which proved to be costly.

“We didn’t do a good job of taking car of the football,” said coach Brady Hoke “We gotta be a lot smarter mentally”

Boise State’s victory was their 24th straight conference opener, and it extended their winning streak over San Diego State to five games.

San Diego State will travel to play Air Force on Saturday September 30th at 5pm, while Boise St will travel to Memphis on the road at 1pm PST.
