Los Angeles, CA – No. 10 USC overcame a slow start and poor shooting to grind out a 75-65 win over North Dakota State on Monday night at the Galen Center.
Junior Bennie Boatwright scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting to help the Trojans improve to 2-0.
“They played very well and we missed a lot of easy shots,” USC coach Andy Enfield said, “I was proud of my players for coming back.”
USC struggled on offense, missing dunks, layups and shooting 54.8 percent from the free-throw line but used a zone press to force 19 turnovers on defense.

“It was just one of those nights,” Jordan McLaughlin said, “We just need to get back in the gym and keep shooting free throws.”
North Dakota State jumped out to a 10-point lead after three-straight three point baskets with 4:51 remaining in the first half. The Trojans went on a 12-2 run and Boatwright scored eight points to help the Trojans tie the game, 33-33, heading into halftime.
Enfield said they decided to go zone for the last 10 minutes of the game because they were having trouble guarding the Bisons man-to-man.

“They were quicker than us because we had bigger guys,” Enfield said. “They really spread the floor with their shooters. Our zone press was effective at times and we forced them into some bad passes.”
USC trailed by five when Jonah Matthews drained back-to-back shots, including a three, to tie it at 56 with 8:26 left in the game. USC went on a 10-0 run before Cameron Hunter hit a three-pointer to cut the Trojans lead, 70-65.
The Trojans defense held on while USC made free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Pasadena, CA – UCLA was able to overcome an early 14 point deficit to defeat Arizona State 44-37 and are now .500 in the season.
“I am really proud of those young men,” said UCLA head coach, Jim Mora. “They are resilient, they have great character and tonight they showed great energy.”
The Bruins fell into a quick whole when ASU’s Demario Richards gave the Sun Devils a 14-0 lead after a 2-yard td run.

A Nate Meadors interception on the Bruins next defensive stand of the game changed the complexion of the game. Meadors took the deflected ball 27-yards for a touchdown and UCLA’s first score.
Josh Rosen and the Bruins tied the ballgame at 14in the 2nd quarter on a 1-yard QB option. A Manny Wilkins TD for ASU gave the Sun Devils and two field goals by UCLA’s JJ Molsen gave ASU a 21-20 lead at halftime.
After being suspended for the previous 3 games, UCLA WR Jordan Lasley exploded for his ball club tonight. Rosen found Lasley on several big plays down the field to set of the Bruins in scoring position.

“Its been a tough year for Jordan,” said Mora. “ College is about learning, growing up, maturing, going through difficult time, and Jordan has had some struggles. I was proud of him tonight, not only for the plays that he made but the control that he showed on the big plays.”
UCLA took its first lead of the game with 11:21 left in 3rd quarter on a 21-yard TD run by Soso Jamabo. 5 of the 79-yards on the ground by Bolu Olorunfunmi came on a TD in the 3rd quarter to give UCLA the lead for good 41-34.

Lasley finished the game with 162 yards receiving on 7 catches and 1 TD. Rosen went 25 of 45 for 381 –yards 1 TD and 1 interception.
UCLA will travel across town next week to play the USC Trojans at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 5pm on ABC.

MAKE-A-WISH GREATER LOS ANGELES TO HONOR USHER, NBC’S THE VOICE AND NELSON & CHRISTOPHER RISING AT 2017 WISH GALA
Hollywood, CA – 2017 Wish Gala was held at the Hollywood Palladium – MAKE-A-WISH Greater Los Angeles to honor Usher, NBC’s the Voice and Nelson & Christopher Rising on Thursday November 9, 2017.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation kids were given the opportunity to walk the red carpet with the bright lights and camera flashes.
Once the honoree Usher arrived the kids faces lit up with smiles and laughter making this a special event for them.

Los Angeles, Ca – Dorsey scored early and often as the No. 6 seeded Dons completely dominated No. 11 Sylmar from start to finish. Fans filled the snack stands at Jackie Robinson Stadium while Dorsey raced to a 22-point lead in the first quarter.
Dorsey had four running backs score touchdowns en route to a 63-0 win over Sylmar in the opening round of the L.A. City Section Division I playoffs on Thursday night.
On the opening drive, Dorsey senior quarterback Mekhi Ellis connected with Dion Bascom on a 20-yard touchdown. Charles Mincy scored on the two-point conversion to give the Dons an early 8-0 lead.
“We wanted to play together and not underestimate our opponent,” Ellis, who went 10-of-13 for 169 yards and two touchdowns, said. “The goal was to come out, play hard, play smart and play fast.”
Sylmar’s opening drive ended with Dorsey linebacker Larry Oshon scooping the fumbled pitch and rumbling to the end zone for a 52-yard touchdown.
After forcing Sylmar to punt, Dorsey sophomore running back Jojuan Collins scored from nine yards out to give Dorsey a 22-0 lead with 37 seconds left in the first quarter.
Dorsey’s rushing attack totaled 241 yards and six touchdowns. Collins and Tyrace Richardson scored two touchdowns each. Cameron Simms and Keeshawn Johnson also scored on touchdown runs. Charles Mincy Jr. led Dorsey with 96 yards rushing on seven carries.
“We have great backs and our line really did good (tonight),” Ellis said. “They run strong and depend on one another.”
With a 42-0 lead at halftime, the running clock was in place for the second half but that didn’t stop the Dons from scoring. Ellis hit Isaiah Nelson in stride down the middle of the field for a 49-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
“We are happy we got the victory but that’s not our goal,” assistant coach Darius Wesber said. “The No. 1 thing we wanted to was execute and eliminate mistakes.”
Wesber filled in for coach Charles Mincy who was suspended for the playoff opener after being ejected in the Dons’ final regular season game against View Park.
The Dons advanced to the quarterfinals where they will face No. 3 Palisades on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 pm.
WASHINGTON, D.C.—A feature film on the life of Civil Rights Activist Fannie Lou Hamer will soon make its way to the silver screen to tell the story of the often overlooked and unheralded “spirit of the Civil Rights Movement.” This biopic tells the dynamic story of a woman who against all odds overcame the poverty of the Jim Crow South in Mississippi, near fatal beatings by law enforcement, repeated threats on her life, and the trauma of forced sterilization to become a leader in politics, civil rights, women’s rights, and community organizing and activism.
The film is being produced by Larry Meli, CEO of Dream Management, Jon Levin of Beverly Hills-based ROAR (Formerly of CAA) and Author Jay Speights of Rosemary Isle, who have optioned the rights to Hamer’s story from her estate and the definitive biography on her by Chana K. Lee, For Freedom’s Sake.
“With the voting rights under attack, Hamer’s story is both timely and crucial as we continue this national debate. As we commemorate what would have been her centennial year, it is only fitting that we reintroduce her amazing story into the American lexicon to serve as a call to action for a new generation of activists,” said team member Jay Speights.
The team assembled to tell Hamer’s story is seasoned in the art of crafting powerful biopics and compelling feature films. Meli produced 2013’s Chavez, which chronicled the life of the Labor Leader Cesar Chavez—Speights worked closely with Meli on the production. Levin is known for representing a diverse array of projects and clients in film and television, most recently Marshall, a biopic of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (directed by Reggie Hudlin and starring Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad and Sterling K. Brown).
In celebration of her 100th birthday on Friday, October 6th, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, organized by Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, led a 30-minute salute to Hamer on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. “For many of us, it was her spirit and her energy that has served as a beacon,” Thompson said. Also, several activists led marches and walks across the country in her honor.
With the fierce strength and determination, she inherited from her mother and grandmother (born a slave), Hamer rose to national prominence to challenge President Lyndon B. Johnson and the Democratic Party establishment. She died in 1977 from a life of hard work, complications from beatings and selfless activism. Mrs. Hamer’s grave was unmarked for close to 30 years. She in now buried in the Fannie Lou Hamer Memorial Garden in Ruleville, Mississippi along with her husband Perry “Pap” Hamer. Her headstone is engraved with her famous quote from the 1964 Democratic Convention, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
“Fannie Lou Hamer’s story is one of struggles and triumphs and is a true testament to the indomitable spirit of a true American hero. This story will surely inspire and motivate future generations of activists to continue the fight for justice and equality,” said team member Larry Meli.
OFFENSIVE: Luke Falk, RSR, QB, Washington State (Logan, Utah) • Led the Cougars to a 24-21 win over Stanford, becoming the Pac-12’s all-time leader in career passing yards with 13,806, breaking Oregon State’s Sean Mannion’s record of 13,600. • Completed 34-of-48 passes for 337 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. • Trailing 21-17 entering the fourth quarter, Falk led WSU on an 11-play, 94-yard drive that lasted 4:56 for the game-winning touchdown drive.

DEFENSIVE: Manase Hungalu, SR, LB, Oregon State (Kailua-Kona, HI) • Recorded a team-best 20 tackles in the game against California. • Twenty tackles is the most by a Pac-12 player this season. • The 20 is also tied for the fourth-best single-game output in Oregon State history. • Thirteen of the 20 tackles were solo. One of the 20 was also a tackle for loss.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Dante Pettis, SR, PR (WR), Washington (San Clemente, Calif.) • Pettis broke the NCAA record with the ninth punt return touchdown of his career, providing Washington with the early, go-ahead score in the Huskies’ 38-3 win over Oregon. • Pettis’ 64-yard punt return for a TD early in the second quarter broke a 3-3 tie as Washington rolled to a 38-3 win. It was his fourth of the year (tying the Pac-12 record for TD punt returns in a season). • With that return, he also became the Pac-12’s all-time leader in punt return yardage with 1,258 career punt return yards, passing Oregon’s Keenan Howry, and Oregon’s Sammie Stroughter. • Pettis is one of just seven players in the nation this season with more than one punt return TD and the only one with more than two. • In Saturday’s win, he also caught four passes for 87 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown.

Los Angeles- USC head coach Clay Helton believes any Pac-12 victory is a good one regardless of how it is obtained. The Trojans squandered a 22-point in the second half but held on for a 49-35 win over Arizona Saturday night.
“We knew it was going to be a fight. That is a good football team, a very hot football team and a very prideful football team fighting for a pac-12 title, too,” said Helton
The victory over No.22 Arizona keeps the Trojans in control of their own fate for a shot at a Pac-12 title.

“Big win for us as far as the Pac-12 South goes. It puts us and leaves us in control of our own destiny and a great opportunity next week to go to Colorado and try to seal things up,” added Helton.
It was a much-anticipated homecoming for Arizona QB Khalil Tate who has taken all of college football by storm the past month. Tate, who was collared majority of the first half by the USC defense, was able to get loose on several big runs to tie the ballgame at 35 with 8:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. An interception late by Tate following a USC score sent the Wildcats back to Arizona with its 3rd loss of the season.
The Trojans began the game dominating in the trenches. USC totaled 331 yards on the ground, its second consecutive week rushing for over 300 yards.
Ronald Jones III had carries of 52 and 29-yards, while constantly picking up chunks of 6 then 4 then 13 yard carries. Jones also had 92-yard touchdown run called back on a holding penalty.
USC RB Aca’Cedric Wire also broke several lengthy runs including one of 21 and a 42-yard touchdown scamper. Jones finished with 27 carries for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wire ended with 122-yard on 14 carries and 1 touchdown.

“I’m very proud of our offensive line and runners on the night, I thought they set the tone for the football game and the really added an attitude about them tonight and showed that they can run the ball, too,” Helton said.
USC scored first on the night on a blocked punt that was scooped up and ran back for an 11-yard TD by WR Jalen Greene. The Trojans took a 14-3 lead with 8:50 left in the 2nd quarter, and then expanded their lead 21-6 to end the half on a 27-yard TD pass from Sam Darnold to Steven Mitchell. USC had many opportunities to put the Wildcats to sleep but were haunted by penalties that shortened its drives or extended Arizona’s. USC totaled 14 penalties for 123-yards.

Tate and the Wildcats didn’t reach the end zone until the 4:30 mark of the third quarter; Tate took a read option play 32-yards for the score to start the Arizona comeback. On Arizona’s next possession, Tate found WR Shun Brown for a 30-yard touchdown pass to cut USC’s lead 28-20.
Tate finished the game 14 of 31 for 146 yards passing 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, but rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.

Darnold had a quiet 311-yards through the air 2 touchdowns and 1 interception on 20 of 26 passing.
USC will continue to chase a shot at the Pac-12 title when it heads to Colorado next week.

Tempe, AZ – Arizona State trailing by three points late in the 4th quarter when true freshman Eno Benjamin rumbles, spins and tumbles into the end zone for a touchdown. This was Arizona State first lead of the game with 5:33 left before defeating Colorado 41-30.
“Simply our mindset is get what the defense gives us,” said ASU Manny Wilkins QB, “Just keep picking away, picking away and eventually they give you the game.”
The Sun Devils scored 24 points in the 4th quarter against verse the Buffaloes. This was after being down by 10 points most of the night.

Each 4th quarter touchdown for Sun Devils was on the ground just pounding away until Colorado buckled.
“I was really proud of our offensive line, they took a step forward today,” said coach Todd Graham, “our whole game plan was to run the ball.”
The Sun Devils rushed for 381 yards in the game led by Demario Richard with 189 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.
Their leader Manny Wilkins threw for 202 yards, two touchdown and one rushing touchdown for Arizona State.
“We knew adversity was going to strike,” said Wilkins, “Keep throwing jabs, throwing jabs, …then fake a jab and land a haymaker you knock em down.”

Colorado came out in the first half and established the running game with the fireplug Phillip Lindsay. He scored his game two touchdowns in the second quarter finishing with 80 yards on 23 carries.
The first half was really frustrating for the Sun Devils offense, which Colorado is due all the credit for that.
“Man it’s hard to win,” said coach Todd Graham, “In the end it was Sun Devil discipline football tonight.”

Now Arizona State will travel to the Rose Bowl to play UCLA, which has potential to be a great stats game for their running backs.

Gardena, CA – Serra holding the lead 24-20 with 4:58 left on the clock after Long Beach Poly scored on a Matt Corral quarterback sneak to mount a comeback in the regular season finally.
That was all put on hold when Serra defense led by Merlin Robertson stopped Poly on 4th & 5 from the 11 yard line. Then Serra run out the clock after few first downs for the victory.
Serra defense made plays in the end to secure the win getting that final stop after allowing 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter.
This matchup lived up to its top billing as it was circled on most players calendars a great win to have to springboard into the playoffs.

Blaze Mckibbin Serra quarterback was pressured all night by Poly front seven. He still managed to throw two big touchdowns in the game ending with a back shoulder comeback to Kobe Smith. The first one went to linebacker who was playing in slot on offense Merlin Robertson.
“It could be my last game out on this field, so I had to leave it all out on this field,” said Merlin Robertson, “We needed this win tonight.”

As for Poly they started the game with true freshman Jake Garcia at quarterback who on the first play from scrimmage dropped a 59 yard touchdown and quick 7-0 lead over Serra.
Most may have wonder where was highly decorated Matt Corral who was benched to start the game due to discipline reason undisclosed. But once he did enter the game the tempo picked up noticeably.
Serra linebacker Justin Patterson scored the team last touchdown with he intercepted a screen pass and walked in endzone.

The 4th quarter had the players and the fans on their feet with Serra’s defense being the Goat. Poly was stopped on well designed play action screen that was sniffed out by safety Bryan Addison.
Now Serra should be assured an at-large bid from the Mission League to the southern section playoffs, while Poly was already the Moore League champs so they will host a first road game.
