Los Angeles, Ca – The visiting Morningside Monarchs spoiled the grand re-opening of University’s remodel field. It took a little time but when the clock ticked zero Morningside dominated  the Wildcats 49-26. Everyone at the game now knows #3 Adarrus Wilson is a MVP for the monarchs. Everywhere you look there he was. Making a pinball machine 80 yard kickoff return, bone crushing hits,  two touchdown catches, and diving interception followed up with fumble.  Head Coach LaFayette Fletcher has to be surprised how well his star is playing.

This game started off with University taking their opening drive the length of the field for opening touchdown. It was nice fade route from QB Paul Davis to Eugene Ford for the Wildcats only lead of game 7-0 10:45 in 1st qtr. After a few series of sloppy play by both teams, then came a nice back shoulder throw from Monarchs QB Jerome Rousborgh to Patrick Jeune for 15 yards score. Then by second quarter it was time for the Wilson show who caught pass that bounced off the Uni defenders helmet high in air and 89 yards later in end zone. After this amazing touchdowns the Monarchs took a 14-7 lead into halftime.

The Monarchs started the second half with a bang having the kickoff returned for 67 yard score by Jeune now the lead stretched to 21-7.  I guess Wilson had to match his teammate so few series later in jump ball fade route Wilson came down in the west end zone for 8 yard touchdown and 27-7 lead with 9:25 left in 3rd quarter. Next a fly sweep from the 26 yard line was handed off to Wilson who glided to another touchdown 35-14 6:03 left third quarter.

One of the bright lights for Uni was wide receiver Ford who kept fighting when his team left the running game behind to take to the air to catch up. Ford caught out route and shook off few defenders before racing 48 yards to end zone bring the score to 27-14 with 7:58 in the third. At one point Uni was forced to play cornerback Takai Rodgers as a wildcat quarterback while Davis was shaken up before returning to game in 4th quarter. Late in game Kareem Miles pulled in nice 15 yard touchdown reaching out on tight coverage.

This game went way to long based on penalties flags, a barrage of passes, and few long injury timeouts. The Monarchs didn’t have a letdown during the game this week, they kept up their energy for four quarters. The lack of depth of the Wildcats showed when the second half came around. It didn’t help that the Monarchs were showing off their athleticism all over the field. This non league will do alot for both teams as prepare for the next contest.

University will host Banning who lost to Garfield 27-14, while Morningside will travel to Torrance who opens up tonight against Mira Costa.
