Playa Del Rey, Ca – The St. Bernard Vikings executed the game plan in every aspect of the game en route to a 49-6 victory over Firebaugh. The Vikings were 1-5 going into Friday game for their Homecoming.

Now getting their second win of the season has to bring little smile to head coach Jimmie Irby Jr. face. The continuous hours of preparation looked all worth it tonight. Sophomore quarterback Jalien Thompson was a big part of the Vikings’ success passing for over 300 yards with four touchdowns. Thompson also racked up 70 rushing yards.

The field looked wide open from the view of Thompson helmet, who was able to hit a different receiver for each touchdown. He completed touchdown to Lashad Cranfield, Ryan Bank, Hector Navarro and Elyas Armstrong.

The Vikings’ running game was also in full effect giving the Firebaugh Defense much more than it could handle. The Vikings struck pay dirt on the first play from scrimmage with a 40-yard run by Shane Williams that ended in the end zone.

On the Viking’s next possession Thompson took a botched snap 35 yards into the end zone but the touchdown was negated due to a holding penalty on the Vikings.

The Vikings took a 36-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. After halftime the Vikings picked up right where they had left off with a vicious running and passing attack that kept Firebaugh on its heels all night.

While Firebaugh tried to figure out the Vikings passing game running back Shane Williams managed to rack up 150 rushing yards and three touchdowns of his own. Williams also accumulated up a bunch of yards on punt returns as well.

This win allowed the Vikings to show that there is something good brewing in Playa Del Rey.
