SAN FRANCISCO – Quarterback Jared Goff of CALIFORNIA, linebacker Antonio Longino of ARIZONA STATE and place kicker Casey Skowron of ARIZONA have been named offensive, defensive and special teams Pac-12 Players of the Week in football.
Goff, a junior quarterback from Novato, Calif., threw for 453 yards, completing 26-of-37 passes in California’s 54-24 victory over Oregon State. Goff led Cal to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2011 by equaling his school-record six touchdown passes, which also ties for the most passes thrown by a quarterback in the nation this season. He became the second player in Pac-12 history to record over 3,000 passing yards in each of his first three seasons and the sixth player in Conference history to record three-3,000 yard campaigns.
Longino, a senior linebacker from Cleveland, Ohio., helped the Arizona State defense hold Washington scoreless in the second half and forced four turnovers as well as three turnovers on downs in ASU’s 27-17 win over Washington. His 9-yard sack on the Husky quarterback in the third quarter pushed Washington back, which resulted in a 45-yard missed field goal. Longino’s second sack of 8 yards midway through the fourth quarter halted the Washington momentum, resulting in an interception for the Sun Devils to kill the drive. Longino tallied a game-high four tackles-for-loss for a total of 20 yards, including two sacks for a loss of 17 yards and finished with seven solo tackles and one bass break-up.
Skowron, a senior placekicker from Phoenix, Ariz., totaled 13 points in his final home game, kicking a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-for-4 on PATs in the Wildcats’ 37-30 double-overtime victory against then-No. 10 Utah. He converted field goal tries of 47, 40 and 35 yards with his final attempt tying the game and forcing a second overtime. Skowron also booted five of his six kickoffs to the endzone for touchbacks and made one tackle on special teams. His kicking helped limit Utah to an average starting field position of its own 22-yard line.
